TABLE ATTACHMENT FGEBEDS.
' Applicatiomfiled J'une20, 1921,'Seria1 No. 479,018.' Renewed April 14, "1922. Serial in. 552,601.
"To all ill 710m z'tm (4y concern:
'Be it knownthatl, 'STAN-rsLAW KUOZYN- sKI, a citizen of the United States of Ameri- -cayresiding at Gleveland,'in the county of Cuya'l'iogagandState of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table Attachments for Beds, of which the following'is a specification.
'Phis invention relates to certain new loand"usefulimprovements in table attach- '-"ments for"beds and has particular refer- :ence to'themouriting'ofa table upon a' series of leverswith the table movable to a position'overlying the bed and 1n prox- 'imity thereto when in operative position,'
and capable of being shifted to lie adjacent "the outer side of one end of the bed when out'of'use.
The primary 'object of the invention is to 0 provide'a table attachment for beds wherein "a'series of leversffor supporting a table are adjustably secured to the side rails of a bed with the table occupying a horizontal position above 'the bed when in use and capable ofbeing shifted'to a position outwardly to one end of the'bed when out of use, the
jmounting for the tableproviding a rigid structure so that the table is securely disposed above the bed, the table top occupy-" ing a'perpendicular position adjacent the endof the bed so'as to occupy a minimum ofj space.
With ""the above .general objects in view "andgothers that will'appear as the nature "of"the' invention is better understood, the
same consists offlthe novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown'in theaccompa'nyin ':drawi11gs and claimed.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several "views,
Figure 1 is a s'ide'eleva'tional view of a" table attachment for beds constructed in accordance with the present invention, the same being shown as attached to a bed and illustrated by dotted lines in its inoperative position,
Figure 2 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on line II-II of Fig. 1 showing the screw clamps for anchoring the table attachment to the bed,
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view taken on line IIIIII of Fig. 1 showing the eX- tensible rod connection between the table nated by the reference numerals 3 having hent upper ends 4 overlying the rails 1 and lateral brackets 5 through which clamping screws 6 are threaded for anchorinsf the clamps to the rails as shown in 2. 7 is pivoted as at 8 to the clamps 3 adjacent one end of the bed and have their pper ends pivoted to the table 9, in a manner tobe later described. Extensible link members embodying bars 10 and 11 are arranged at opposite sides of the bed, the upper ends of which are connected to the table 9 while the lower ends of, the sections 10 are laterally ofl set to provide mounting; lugs 12 provided with openings 13 through which pivot pins pass for mounting the same on the clamps 3 adjacent the opposite end of'the bed. The $5 connection between the extensible link sections 10 and 11 embodies guide clips 14: carried by the upper end of the section. 10 for enclosing the link section 11 while the inner end of the link section 11 carries guide links 15 for enclosing the link section 10. As shown in F gs. 1 to 3 the link sections 11 are provided with openings 16 to receive pivot D1113 17 carried, by the levers 7, therebyproviding a pivotal connection between the link 3o sections 11 and the levers 7,
The table top 9 embodies depending end plates 18 through which pivot rod 19 passes for accommodating the upper ends of the levers 7 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. An 190 angle slot 20 is formed in each end plate 18 and through which slots a rod 21 passes with the offset ends thereof received in the apertured lugs 22 carried by the upper ends of the link sections 11.
hen the table 9 is in the operative position shown in Fig. 1 the link sections 10 and 11 of the extensible support lie adjacent each other with the rod 21, connected to the outer ends of the link sections 11, positioned at the outer end oi the angle slots min the (lCJGDilUlQ; plates 7'8, the pivotal connection between the levers 7 and the sections 11 of the link members providing a substantial mounting for the table top. The height of the table relative to the bed may be controlled by shifting the clamps 3 upon the side rails 1 while the position oi: the table relative to the ends 2 01"? the bed may also be changed.
When it is desired to displace the table from the position overlying the bed, to its inoperative position, the table top 9 is grasped and moved in a direction to extend the link sections 10 and 11 with the levers 7 moving on their pivotal connections 8 with the supporting clamps 3 and when so position, the table" top 9 is moved to a perpendicular position to cause the bolt 2 to travel in the angle slot andbe supported at the opposite end thereof as shown by dotted In this position the table lines in Fig. 1. top 1s completely displaced from the bed with the supporting structure in no manner interfering with the use of the bed for sleeping purposes. r v ll hile there 1s herein shown and described 1' the preferred embodiment otth'e present 'invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
