FRANZ STUTZEL, or WABASHAW, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS OR STOMACH-BITTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,427, dated October 7, 1873; application filed September 13, 1873. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ STi'ITZEL, of Wabashaw, in the county of Wabashaw and State'of Minnesota, have invented a certain Compound called Stomach- Bitters, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a new and useful compound or mixture; and it consists in combining and compounding a mixture or tonic of thefollowing ingredients,which is designed to purify the blood,and act as an invigorating medicine upon the general system, to prevent fevers, to strengthen the nerves, to improve the appetite and prevent indigestion, and to regulate the action of the liver.
I take, of Spanish saflron, rhubarb, agaricus, gum-myrrh, zedoario root, gentian, electuary theriac, tormentil root, St. Johns wort, Peruvian bark, juniperi, and aloes, one quarter of an ounce of each; of camphor and century, one-eighth of an ounce of each; and of angelica, one-half of one ounce; and, of whisky one and one-quarter of a gallon. These in gredients are mixed together, and allowed to stand from three to four days in a warm place to distil, when the mixture is percolated, and the extract is ready for use.

The manufacture or preparation of a compound which is denominated stomach-bitters, of the ingredients, in the proportion, and for the purpose, set forth.
