ELI ROBIDEAU, 0F MALONE, NEW YORK. Y
DUST COLLECTOR.
Application led July 428,
To all whom t may'concem:
Be it known that I, ELI RoBmEAmacitizen of the United States, residing at Malone, in the county of Franklin and State of New York, have invented a Vnew and usefulthe following is a specification.
LThis invention relates to a dust collector particularly designed for use in removing and retaining dust that has been gathered up by a mop. A
` One of the objects of the invention is to provide a container into which a mopcan be inserted readily, there beinga closure for preventing dust from spreading outside of the container while the mop is being cleaned. A further object is tov provide rods or other 4abutments on which the mop can be beaten for the purpose of separating the dust therefrom, a suitable receptacle being disposed within the container intowhich the dust will settle so that it. can subsequently be removed readily.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of'construction hereinafter described and claimed, it beingunderstood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can lbe m/ade without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accom anying drawings the preferred f forms o the invention have been shown.
In said drawings- Figure 1 is a, front elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2, Figure 1. p
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through a portion of a slightly modified form of structure. Y i
Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates a container of any desired proportions and preferably provided i on its top with a handle 2 whereby itfcan be carried conveniently from place to place. An opening 3 is formed in the front wall of the l--eo`ntainer` and is normally closed by a door 4 hingedly mounted at its' upper end as shown at 5. rlhis door has a longitudinal slot 6 extending thereinto from its lower edge and secured to the side portions or walls of the slot are Haps 7 of rubber or other suitable material which tend normally open position and the mop 1921. Serial No. 488,073.
ranged within the container below the level of the opening 3 and constitute means on 'which a mop can be beaten for the purpose of separating dust from the mop.
The door 4 is held closed normally by gravity and can be opened by means of a knob 12 extending outwardly therefrom. If desired, however, the doo-r can be of the modified construction shown in Figure 3, this modified door 13 being so shaped and proportioned as to swing within the opening 14 in the container 15. D y In using the structure shown in Figures land 2 the door 4 is swung outwardly toy to be cleaned is inserted through the opening 3. The door is then closed so that the handle of the mop will be received within the slot 6, the flaps opening out so as to receive the' handle between them and permit the handle to be moved about. After the door has been. closed the handle can be manipulated so that the mop cloth will be struck against the rods 11. Consequently dust will be beaten.
' therefrom and will settle into the receptacle 8. The door 4 and the flaps 7, however.
the container into the phere.
Instead of being compelled to open the door outwardly in order to'insertthe mop the door 13 will swing inwardly when the mop is pressed thereafrainst and after' the mop has been properly inserted the doorI will gravitate to closed position so that the handle of the mop'will be seated in the slot in the door.
What is claimed is 1. A dust collector for mops including a container having an opening in yone face, a door normally closing the opening and having a slot therein for the reception of a mo handle, flexible means connected to the door surrounding ,atmosvfor closing the slot, and means supported of the container, a normally closed door extending across the opening and having a slot therein for the reception of a mop handle7 Flexible means normally closing the slot to prevent egress of dust, and means mounted Within the container for receiving the impact of a mop.
3. A portable dust collector including a container, there being an opening in one Wall of the container, a normally closed door extending across the opening and having a slot therein for the reception of a mop han; dle, flexible means normally closing the slot 'impact of a mop,
,as my own, l. have to prevent egress of dust, and means mounted Within the container for receiving the and a removable receptacle for receiving dust settling within the container.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
