Be it known that I, HENRY TVVALLAOE BEN- NER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania. have invented a new and useful Antirattler, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to anti-rattlers, to be used in connection with sliding window sashes for holding the sashes against movement transversely of the frame in which the same are supported.

An object of the invention is'to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily applied to sash constructions now in use, eliminating the necessity of making alterations in the constructions of the sashes to accomplish the application of the device.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined anti-rattler and curtain pole bracket so that a curtain supported by the pole will hide the anti-rattler from view.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a fragmental elevational view of window sashes, disclosing an anti-rattler constructed in accordance with the present invention, as applied thereto.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a body portion 5 which is formed preferably of sheet metal, the same being provided. with suitable openings to accommodate the screws 6 by means of which the device may be applied to a window sash.

The body portion 5 is provided with an extension 7 formed at the upper end thereof,

the extension being formed at right angles to the body portion 5 so thatthe same will overlie the upper edge of the sash to which the same is secured. An extension 8 also forms a part of the body portion, and this extension extends in a direction opposite to the extension 7 and has its free end extending downwardly as at 9 to provide an abutment for the spring member 10 which is also formed integral with the body portion. Qne ec go of the body portion 5 isbent at right angles as indicated at 11, the upper portion thereof being cut away to accommodate one end of a curtain pole, thus adapting the device for use as a curtain pole support.

Associated with the body portion 5- is a stationary abutment 12 which is provided with openings to accommodate securing members, one end of the abutment beingshown as offset as at 13, where the same is provided with a right angled flange let, the outer edge of the flange being inclined as at 15 to cooperate with the spring member 10 and set up a wedging action when the members 10 and 14: are brought into engagement with each other.

As clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawings, when the sash carrying the antirattler is moved to the limit of its downward movement, the abutment 12 contacts with the member 10 to force the sash carried thereby into engagement with the adjacent sash, thereby taking up the space between the sashes to eliminate rattling thereof.

It is to be understood that it is contemplated to use an anti-rattler of this character at each side of a window sash.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. An anti-rattler including a body .por-

tion having a right angled extension formed adjacent to the upper end thereof, and having a downwardly curved portion, a spring member formed integral with the body portion and adapted to incline outwardly and contact with the curved portion, and an abutment having an offset portion provided with an inclined edge adapted to contact with the spring member for exerting a pressure on the body portion.
