INVENTOR l si BY v I JQLQWLC MAM/i ATTORNEY place thereon.

DEVICE FOR USE OETHE BLIND IN WRITING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL FAST, a citizen of the United States, and resident of. vFresno, in the county of Fresno and the State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Device for Use of the Blind in Writing, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates to a device for assisting the blind in writing and its prin cipal object is to furnish a guide whereby a blind person can write on approximately straight lines an equal distance apart, ap proximately equal in length, and with a uniform margin. I have secured this and other objects hereinafter set forth by means of the device described in this specification and illustrated in the drawing herewith in whichFigure 1 is a perspective view of the device having parts cut away, and showing a writing board and sheet of I have constructed a frame, preferably rectangular in shape, and of some rigid material. preferably brass, having two ends- E and D, and sides B and F as shown in the drawing. .Side B has a depending flange B 'which is preferably on the left side of the frame, and the end D has a depending flange D which is prefcrablyat the top of the-frame. H is a board or base on which the writing paper M is placed. Board M should have at least onecorner a right angle to correspond with the corner 0 is a marginal guide which is an auxiliary strip attached to the left side parallel with strips B and F. lVhile I have shown this guide attached to the frame, it is observed that it can be -made adjustable as to the size of the margin. The strip 1 attaching strips paper in,

strengthens the frame, forms 'a base for the,
g, and is a guide for the right hand'margin.
I have placed but two flanges B and D on the frame so that different sizes of bases, and different sizes of paper may be used with the same frame.' Inusing this device one hand holds the pencil or'pen while I i the index finger of the otherhand follow's it while writing, running along the space between two 'adjacent parallel bars. The": middle finger of the hand-holding thepenoil precedes the writing and the writergis warned when near the end of a line by the middle finger coming in contact with bar F. Suffic'ient'space is thus left in the line to finish a syllable or word. When the end of the line is reached a finger, preferably the index finger of the left hand, can
be moved back along the bar'to the left f.
side of the page, when the finger can be J 1. In adevice of the character described, 1n combination with a flat base having two sides at right angles to each other, of a frame having depending flanges on two a sides thereof at right angles to each other,
and a plurality of rigid cross bars rectangue lar in cross section attachedto said frame parallel with one of said flanges and equidistant apart, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the character described the combination ofa base having a plane upper surface and two sides at rightangles to each otherand a rigid frame having attached thereto rigid rectangular bars parallel with one end of the frame and with each dropped to. the next line and the writing other and equidistant apart, a depending I flange along. a side and an end of the frame and a marginal guide attached to the upper side of the parallel bars and atright angles thereto substantially asdescribed.
