DOLL.
Specification of Letters Iratent. Patents@ ug. l5, i922..-
Applieation led June 18, 1921. Serial No. 478,476.
To all whom tmc/,y concern Be it known that I, NELLIE KEARNEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Holyoke, in the county of Hampden and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dolls. of which the following or construct dolls so as to form the same with one or more faces, each having its body differently clothed to correspond with the appearance of the face.
The present invention comprises the usual doll construction having the pivotally connected legs and arms, and the fixed body and head portions; but with the additional features of a movable hat for hiding or covering one face and disclosing another, whereby by changing the position of the hat the appearance of the doll as 'a whole may be changed. The pivoted legs are also adapted to be turned so as to correspond with the position of the exposed face.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. l shows the doll with the hat in one position, disclosing the face, arms, legs, and a suitable dress of a doll which represents a white person.
Fig. 2 is the reverse side of F ig. l, showing the hat moved so as to cover the face shown in Fig. l, and disclosing suitable features to represent a colored person.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of Fig. 2, illustrating the hat covering the white face and showing how each half of the body and arms ofthe doll are covered to correspond with the face. v
Fig. l is a detail view of the jointed structure for the legs, whereby the feet may be turned as shown in dotted and full line positions.
Referring to the drawings in` detail: l represents the side of the doll that is white,
and 2 the side ofthe doll that is colored,
both having the characteristic features painted, or otherwise placed on the material covering each half of the doll.y The cap or hat is indicated at 8, and is provided with l bows a and l-on the opposite sides thereof which serve to pivotally secure -the hat to the head portion at the points 6. The foot portions 7 and 8 are pivotally connected at the knee portion, as indicated at 9,'whereby the feet may be turned `in oppositedirections, as indicatedin Fig. il, depending on the. position of the hat, so that the appearance of the doll'may be uniform.y These leg and feet' members are suitably covered to represent stockings and shoes. The arms l() of the doll may be pivot-ally connected'to n the shoulder part,-as indicated by the dot'd line il in Fig. l. l v
It isto be understood that the appearancel of the doll as shownis not limited g, as any suitable characters maybe represented on the opposite sides and faces of the doll, those shown being merely illustrative. The appearance of the dress as shown is also illustrative. If desiredthe entire dress may be of-uniform appearance and color, or it may differ greatly in style and appearance on both sides. lVhat I claim is: l
