dlawdei 605 6 INVENTOR I ATTORNEY WITNESSES UNl'l" STATES PATENT DFFICE.
GLA'U'DEL COLE, 0F IOUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK.
Application filed March 19, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GLAUDEL Conn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Poughkeepsie, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothesline Adjusters, of which the, following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamps for ropes or cables and is especially designed for use in adjusting clothes line and the like.
An obj eet of the invention is the provision of a clothes line adjuster, which will tightly hold the line in adjusted position without injury to said line, the invention further including means for easily and quickly tak ing up slack due to stretching of the line or from other causes.
Another object is the provision of a clothes line adjuster of simple construction, which includes a clamping roller mounted in a bracket formed from a single piece of sheet metal and bent to provide side bearing members, a rope guide and projecting ears for securing therebetween a line attaching element.
' The invention further includes the following novel features and details of construc tion to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a bottom edge view with the rope removed.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the bracket is formed.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention is shown as comprising a bracket 10, which is preferably formed from a single piece of sheet metal. The metal is out to the shape shown in Figure 5 and is bent to provide inclined substantially parallel side bearing plates or members 11, which are connected at one end by a transverse Web 12. The opposite ends of the members 11 provides spaced ears and secured between these ears is a rope attaching element preferably in the form of a disk Specification of Letters Patent.

or roller 13, which is mounted upon a rivet 14, secured in said ears. Eccentrically mounted upon a pin or rivet 15, which is secured in the side plates or members 11, is a roller 16, the latter being so located with respect to the web 12 as'to provide in conunction with the said web, a clamp, as will be hereinafter apparent.
In the use of the invention, one end of the rope 17 is secured around the element 13 to provide means for securing the clamp to some stationary object. The clothes line 18 is then passed around the roller 16 between said roller and the web 12. When a ull is exerted upon the end 19 of the clothes ine, the latter will be free to move through the brackets 10, but any movement in an opposite direction will be resisted by the roller 16 forcing the rope against the web 12, due to the eccentric mounting of said roller. To further guard against possible slipping of the rope 18, the web 12 is provided with transverse inwardly extending projections 20, formed by crimping the web. The construction just described permits of use of a smooth roller, while the projections 20 are so formed as not to out or injure the rope.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a bracket formed from a single piece of material and bent to provide a pair of parallel inclined side bearing plates having aligned openings therein, a transverse web connecting one end of said plates and provided with a plurality of transverse inwardly extending projections, a rivet passing through said openings in said bearing plates, a roller eccentrieally mounted on said rivet and cooperating with said projections to provide a clamp, spaced ears extending from the opposite ends of said plates and having aligned openings therein, a rivet extending through the openings in said ears and a roller rotatably mounted on the last mentioned rivet.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GLAUDEL COLE.
