Description

W. S. F l CKETT.
Blanking-Brushes. No. 141,638. PatentedAugust12J873.
UNITED STATES PATENT O EIcE.
WILLIAM sTmKETT, OF EooIIEsTEE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLACKlNG-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,638, dated August 12, 1873; application filed November 30, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. FIGKETT, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain Im-' provements in Oombi nation Blackin g-Brushes,
.of which the following is a specification I blacking-brush and dauber having my invention attached. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of one end of the brush and the base of the standard to which the dauber is attached.
A represents the ordinary shoe-brush; B, the dauber (J, the blacking-box; and D, the standard. The base-plate b of the standard is slotted, as seen at a, Fig. 2, to receive the clamping'screw 8, whereby the points 0 may be pressed against the blacking-box, so as to clamp it firmly between them and the end of the handle at a, whether the box be large or small. It might be desirable to provide two or more screw-holes in the back of the brush to receive the clamping-screw s, to permit the use of either large or small boxes. The upper end of the standard D is bifurcated, and the twirled by the hand, or its edge may be rolled along the boot or other object, after which it may be thrown outward by a sudden flirt of the hand holding the brush, when the blacking may be applied to the boot or shoe.
It will be seen that the dauber answers as a cover for the blacking-box while not in use.
This constitutes a very compact and convenient blacking-kit.
What I claim as my invention is- The adjustable clampingstandard D in this class of brushes, in combination with the brush A and blacking-box O, as and for the purposes set forth.
