Be it known that I` CHAnLas FREDEIHCK (iAI'NT, of the city ot' Birmingham, England. a subject ot' the King ot' Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medal-Ribbon Carriers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description thereof.

T his invention has reference to medal ribbon bars and medal bars.

Heretofore it has been proposed to construct medal ribbon bars in various ways so as to enable the medal ribbon to be fixed thereon without sewing and also provide a ready means of securing the medal ribbon to a garment. My invention is of this class, and can be employed for securing together two or more full sized or miniature medal bars and attaching them to a garment.

My invention is chiefly applicable where it is required to fix two or more medal ribbons or medal bars to one bar or the like furnished with means for attaching it to a garment. According to my invention each medal ribbon is mounted on its own independent short bar furnished with attachment means or constructed for its attachment, each thus forming an independent medal ribbon unit and one or more of these independent medal ribbon units is or are removably fixed singly or in a row on a long back bar or the like which is furnished with means for its attachment to a garment.

It is intended that a military tailor for instance would keep in stock a number of various kinds of these independent medal ribbon units and long back bars or the like so that it thus becomes a very simple matter for him to mount several medal ribbons on one long back bar or the like whilst a customer waits, as all that is necessary is for him to aix to the front of the back bar or the like the required number and kinds of independent medal ribbon units which are attached to the back bar or the like by screwed stems projecting at the back of the units passing through a slot or slots in the back bar or the like 'and secured by nuts at the back, or bv the bars of the various medal ribbon units being furnished with eyelets which pass through the slot or slots in the back bar and are clenched over washers on the back of the same.

In a similar manner I removably attach to a long back bar or the like several full size medal bars. or miniature medal bars.

For full comprehension, however, of my invention, reference must be had to the accompanying drawings in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts, and wherein:

The particular medal ribbon bar shewn by Fig. l has three independent medal ribbon units marked respectively A, B and C and these are removably fixed in a row on the long back bar l) which is furnished with means for its attachment to a garment, the particular means in the example illustrated by my drawings being an ordinary brooch pin l which is jointed to the back bar at 2 and when fastened engages with the catch 3 xed to the other end of the back bar. Each of these independent medal ribbon units is preferably constructed as illustrated by Figs. 5, 7 and 9. Each unit comprises a flat, shallow, thin sheetl metal bar of channel cross-section and its length is equal to the width of the medal ribbon and an attachment plate 8 located between the side edges 5 and 6 of the channel member. These edges are bent back'upon the attachment plate to clamp the ends of the ribbon therebetween and the channel bar 4, the ribbon being stretched over the front of the latter with its ends positioned between the channel bar and plate.

The attachment plate 8 is furnished with suitable means for removably fixing it -to of one of the in- -the back bar D. The back'bar D is preferably made slightly shorter than the width of the one, two', three or more medal ribbon units which 1t 1s required to hold and ismade lof the proper width to fit Y in the groove between the back turned ribbon covered edges 5, G, of the medal ribbon units. The back bar-D need not necessarily have a brooch pin for its attachment to the garment as itmay'for instance be made with eyes or holes at the ends for 'sewing on to the garment or be otherwise suitably formed so as to be attached thereto. The said backV bar D is however preferably formed offa; longitudinal parallel sided sheet metal blankl pierced with a long slot l0 or with twozorA more short slots end to end or with a hole or two or more holes in a row for vtheV screws or attachments to pass through :as 'aforesaid.

It will be seen that when the medal ribbon bar is constructed as above described one'or more independent medal ribbon unitsfcan be readily attached to the back lbar D by being placed in position at the front of the back bar with the screw shank or eyelet orthe like passing through the slot or hole inl the back bar and there secured as by the nut screwed on to the shank and. tightened up, or by the eyelet (see Figs. 8 `and 9) passed through a washer and spread over on i the back.
