PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE MALO, JR., OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
PIPE COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented Mar. 7, 1922.
Application filed August 21,1920. Serial No. 404,981.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE MALo, Junior, a British subject, student, residing at 2308 Esplanade, Montreal, Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe Covers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in pipe covers and its main object is to provide a device of this character, which will easily be adjusted on a pipe.
A further object is to provide a device of this character having a plurality of holes and means by which the air can be regulated by either closing or opening said holes. This invention is also simple and cheap to manufacture. Like other similar devices, its chief function is to prevent the ashes or the burning tobacco from falling or being blown out of a pipe.
To better understand the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pipe to which is adapted the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional viewof the invention, illustrating how the movable disc is mounted on the cap.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
In the drawings 1 is a stem and 2 is the bowl of a pipe. Adapted to fit over said bowl is provided a cap 3 having a downwardly projecting circumferential flange 4, the said flange being provided with a plurality of upwardly projecting slots 5 having converging oblique sides terminating into a circular hole 6 at the top. The particular shape and position of the slots 5 provided in the flange 4L- give to said flange a certain amount of flexibility and resiliency, thus providing a cover that will readily hold on the bowl of the pipe.
The cap 3 is provided with a plurality of holes 7 on its top portion and 8 are lugs preferably cut out from said top portion which are adapted to form a pivoting point on which turns the disk 9. The said lugs 8 preferably project through a central hole 10 in said disk and are bent over the edges of said hole 10 in order to lock said disk on top of said cap 3. The disk 9 is preferably provided with a plurality of holes 11 which are adapted to register with the holes 7, and 12 are upwardly projecting lugs preferably formed 1011 the outer edge of said disk 9 in order to facilitate its operation.
It will readily'be seen that on turning the disc 9 which is pivoted on the cap 3, the holes 7 will register with the holes 11, on the cap 3 and on further turning the disk, the said holes will be closed by the solid space between them.
WVhat I claim as my invention is A smokers pipe cover comprising a cap having a downwardly projecting flange adapted to engage the external surface of a pipe bowl, said flanges having slots and holes at the ends of the slots whereby the j flange comprises a plurality of resilient fingers, the top of the cap being provided with a plurality of perforations; a disk having perforations adapted to register with the perforations in the top; fingers struck-up from the cap on which said disk is rotatably mounted in close proximity to the top; and ears on said disk extending upwardly therefrom and forming finger pieces by means of which the disk is rotated to regulate the passage of the air and smoke through the perforations in said top.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 29th day of July, 1920.
THEODORE MALO, JR.
