uarreo STATES PATENT orricn.
ADOLPH M. DEUTSCH AND WILLIAM V. DUPRE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
INDICATOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ADOLPH M. DEUTSOH and l/VILLIAM -V. DUPRE, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invide a simple form of label which may be 1 homes for marking the faucets in the bath readily attached to hot water and cold water faucets to distinguish between them and prevent such mistakes as drinking impure water from a hot water faucet, and the inadvertent discharge of scalding water upon a bather.
' A special object is to provide an indicator or label which fits over the nozzle of a faucet so as to prevent'accidental turning of said indicator thereon which might bring the indicia to a position at the side or rear of the faucet where it could not be clearly seen and consequently defeat the purpose of the device. Other objects will appear as the description proceeds. V
The invention contemplates the provision of labels or tags which may be made of inexpensive material and provided with simple attaching means, such as flexible arms adapted to be bent around the stems of faucets. Said indicators are especially adapted for use by travelers who are obliged to stop at hotels not equipped with the improvements of modern plumbing, such as permanent indicia on the faucets. These detachable indicators may, however, be also used in rooms, kitchens, or elsewhere. The invention will be further herein described in connection with, the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this specification, and then more specifically defined in the claims at the end'of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
F igure'l is a front elevation of a faucet showing one of our indicators applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a side View of the faucet showing the indicator in section.
Figure 3 is a detailed perspective view of one form of the indicator, the attaching Patented Jan.3, 1922.
Application filed August 16, 1921. Serial No. 492,750.
arms being shown spread apart in dotted lines, and
Figure 4 is a detailed plan view of a modified form of indicator.
Inv Figures 1 and 2, 1 indicates a faucet of usual form having a nozzle 2, a stem 3 provided with a handle 4, and a nut 5 around the base of the stem. The indicator comprises a split ring portion 6 having fiexible arms 7 adapted to be bent around or 'ust below the nut 5, as clearly illustrated in igures 2 and 3, and a channeled skirt portion 8 depending from the front of said ring to fit over the nozzle 2 of the faucet.
The arms 7 may have tapered ends to overlap one another, as at 9 in Figure 3, or said arms may be made to abut against one another, as at 10 in Figure 4. The indicia 11, such as Hot or Gold, in each instance is preferably placed on the front portion of the ring 6 just above the skirt portion 8, but said indicia may be placed on said skirt portion, as suggested in Figure 4. It will be noted that the channeled skirt portion 8 fits over the nozzle 2 like a saddle and is retained in position thereon by gravity so that the indicia 11 will always be maintained in clear view at the front, there being no danger of the tag or label becoming accidentally displayed or rotated around the stem 3 of the faucet.
portion to saddle the nozzle of the faucet for the purpose specified.
2. A faucet indicator comprising a ringshaped portion having flexible arms for detachably encircling the stem of a faucet, and a channeled depending portion to saddle the IEOZZlG of the faucet for the purpose speci- 3. A faucet indicator comprising a ringshaped portion having flexible arms with tapered ends adapted to overlap one another for detachably encircling the stem of a fancet, and a channeled depending portion to saddle the nozzle of the faucet for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification.
. ADOLPH M. DEUTSCH.
