Application filed December 31, 1920. Serial No. 434,341. d
' made of paper or fiber boardand aims to gether one. on the other, and such sections clothes or wearing apparel, without the needprovide a box of novel and improved con-. struction adapted especially for shipping of wrapping the box in paper, as usual.
One of the objects of the invention is the provision of a box comprising tray-like bot tom and top sections to telescope or fit toeach being formed from a blank and having secure corner constructions.
A further object is the provision of novel means carried by the inner or bottom section for preventing access into the box between the margins of the top sections for the purpose' of withdrawingigarments, or the like,
from the box, without detection.
As a more specific object, in this connec tion, the invention aims to provide flaps at the edges of the inner or bottom section to overlie the contents and to prevent a person from reaching into the box and pulling out the garments or similar articles without de tection, when the box is tied or bound for shi ment. still further object is the provision of novel means for the engagement of such flaps with one another in overlapping relation to retain them in place, and render access into thebox moredifiicult, without openingNthe box.
ith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resldes 1n the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope of whattis' claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. v
The invention is illustrated in the accom-- anyin drawing, wherein P g of the bot- Flgure 1 is a perspective view tom section or body of the box. I
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the top section or cover.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the bottomsection in blank, prior to folding thereof into shape.
The box is of flat form, such as used for the transportation of cloaks, suits, dresses, 'furs and other garments or wearing apparel,
and the. like, and the box is of elongated or rectangular form, as shown. The box is composed of two tray-like sections to telescope or fit one on the other, and each section is formed from a blank of paper or fiber board -of suitable quality to resist breakage of the box during handling and shipment. The bottom or inner section comprises the bottom 7 and the side walls 8 and end walls 9 bent upwardly from the bottom, and said walls are provided at the ends thereof with the triangular securing flaps 10 and 11, respectively. The flaps 10 of the side walls overlap the end walls on the exterior, whereas the flaps 11 of the end walls overlap the side walls on the interior, and such flaps are secured to such walls by means of staples 12, or the like, engaging inwardly through such walls and 'flaps to prevent'them from being torn apart without detection. All of the flaps 10 and 11 have edges coinciding with the edges of the side and end walls, respectively, and staples or securing elements 12 preferably extend along the diagonal edges of the flaps which extend from the edges of the body or section .of the box to the corners thereof, thereby providin secure corner constructions that will wit standrough ,handling and tampering.
The outer section or cover 13 is of the same construction as above described, but
slightly larger to telescope or fit over the bottom section or body. v p The bottom or inner section is, in addition to the foregoing construction, provided with means for preventing the insertion of a hand and the withdrawal of a garment or similar article from the box without detection, when the box is tied or bound for transportation. The side walls 8 and end walls 9 have the respective flaps 14 and 15 extending from the edges thereof, and such -flaps can be folded over the contents after same are placed in the box. The end flaps 15, as shown, can be folded over the end portions ofthe side flaps 14 so that the flaps overlap at th ir ends. -Such flaps will therefore make it impossible for a person to reach into box that same can the guilty person in charge of the shlpthe box between the body and cover to withdraw a garment or other object from the box without so tearing or be readily detected and ment held responsible.
The guard flaps 14 and 15 have means whereby they can engage one another, to hold them in place, and thereby make access into the box more difficult. Thus, the side flaps 14, which are lowermost of the said I flaps, are provided with diagonal slits 16 exthe flaps being tending from their edges at suitable points, and providing pointed tabs 17 which are so arranged, that when the flaps 15 are folded down over the flaps 14, said tabs 17 can be 'sprung over the edge portions of the flaps 15, as seen in Fig. 1, thereby holding the flaps 14 and 15 down in place after the contents have been placed within the body of the box, and to prevent such flaps raising while putting the cover on. Furthermore,
mutilating the thus engaged with'one an- Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A tray-like .box section having flaps extending from its walls to overlap one another and overlie the contents, some of said flaps being slit obliquely from those edges opposite to the corresponding walls to engage the edges of the others for holding said flaps in overlapping relation.
2. A tray-like box section having flaps extending from its walls to overlap one another and overlie the contents, some of said flaps having tabs at those edges opposite to the corresponding Walls and spaced from the ends of such'flaps to be snapped over the edges of the other flaps for holding the flaps in overlapping relation. I
3. -A tray-like box section having flaps extending from its Walls to overlap one another and overlie the contents,- some of'said flaps having slits extending from the edges thereof opposite to the corresponding Walls and forming tabs to be snapped over the edges of the other flaps for holding the flaps in overlapping relation. 4
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
