Description

June 24 1924.
D. H. FANNING ARTICLE OF PERSONAL WEAR Filed Sept. 16 1922 IlI Patented .lune 24, 1924.
OFFZCE.
ARTICLE OF PERSONAL WEAR.
Application led September 16, 1922. Serial No. 588,597.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, Davrn H. FANNING, a citizen of the TUnited States, residing at llVorcester, in the county of lWorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented or discovered certain new and useful lmprovements in Articles of Personal Wear, of which the following is a specification, reiterence being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention has for its object to provide ornamental stiflened sections for corsets or other articles of personal wear, as ln'assiers, bandeaux, belts, or the like, such ornamental stiffened sections comprising' layers of fabric joined together by spiral stitching of considerable extent, forming what may be termed medallions, a stiifening cord or ne wire being preferably laid between the layers of fabric and the rows of spiral stitching to stifle-n the medallions to an extent greater than would result from the spiral stitching alone.
ln the accompjanying drawing Fig. l represents a part of the back portion of a corset embodying the present invention, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged diagrammatic section on line 2 2. of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing, l2 denotes a flat medallion at each side of the central part of the corset back, said medallion being formed by closely arranged rows of spiral stitching lf3, preferably done by a sewing machine having a suitable attachnient. These medallions afford ornamental and stiffened portions of the corset. To further stiften the ornamental medallions a cord or ne wire 14E is preferably spirally disposed between the fabric layers 15 and the spiral stitching 13.
While the drawing shows the spirally formed medallion sections as being applied to the lower back part of the corset, it will be understood that this is merely a preferable arrangement of the ornamental medal- Alions and that they may be differently applied, as to the sides or the front of the corset, and may be embodied in other articles of personal wear than corsets, as hereinbefore indicated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. An article of personal wear having a flat ornamental medallion comprising layers of fabric joined together and stiffened by closely arranged rows of spiral stitching, with a spirally disposed stiflening member between the layers of fabric and the spiral stitching.
2. n article of personal wear having a flat ornamental medallion comprising laycrs of fabric joined together and stifle-ned by closely arranged rows 0f spiral stitching, with a spirally disposed stiffening wire between the layers of fabric and the spiral stitching.
