A. HALVORSON PUMP ANCHOR AND WELL SEAL Filed April 20, 1923 www? l/llll//A lll /1//1/ WITNESS:
INVENTOR A1TORNEY Patented Apr. 22, 1924.
' iro s f 'Y ANDREW HALVORSON, F FRANKLIN, MINNESOTA.
PUMP ANCHOR AND WELL SEAL.
Application led April 20, 1923. Serial No. 633,524.
To all whom z't 'may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW HALvoRsoN, a citizen of the United States. residing at Franklin, in the county of Renville and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pump Anchors and Tell Seals, of whicll the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for holding a pump in a-well and for sealingI the top of the well so as to prevent movement of the pump and contamination of the well.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my 4invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectionatl view of a well showing the invention in use.
lIigure 2 is a plan view of the device itse Figure 3 is a section on line 3--3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an edge view of one half of the cover with the wedge 11 thereon.
Figure 5 is a sectional view showing how thelwedge member holds the device in the we In these views l indicates a well and 2 indicates the pump chamber which is in communication with the top of the well. pump is shown at 3, the well pipe is shown at4 and a branch pipe at 5, this branch pipe leading thev water to the house system or the like.
In carrying out my invent-ion .I provide acover A for the top of the well casing 1, said cover having a reduced lower part 6 which fits in the casing 1. The upper part is of greater diameter than the well casing and the cover has a central hole 7 through which the ipe 4 passes. The cover is formed of two alves and the one half has a projecting edge 8 on its flat side which engages a recess 9 in the fiat side of the other half. One half is provided with a The , ture.
slot to receive a wedge 11 which wedges the device in the casing and. causes it to make a tight fit with the pipe 4.
This device will hold the pump rigidly to the well tubing so as to prevent any movement of the pump which has a tendency to crystallize the connecting pipe 5. It also seals the well so that there is no danger of the water therein being contaminated. The wedge will cause the device to grip the well casing as well as the pipe 4, thus making the pump and well a solid unit. It is also valuable as a pipe holder when taking the pump from the well. There are no bolts to rust out or set and the wedge can -be moved by jarring it up or down with a slight tap of a hammer.
- It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:--
1. A device of the class described comprising a cover formed of two parts and having a reduced lower part for fitting in the well casing and a central hole through which the pump pipe passes and means for holding the device in the well casing.
2. A device of the class described comprising a cover formed of two parts and. having a reduced lower part for fitting in the well casing and, a central hole through which the pump pipe passes, means for holding the device in the well casing, such means consisting of a wedge member and a slot in the device for receiving the same.
3. A device of the class described comprising a cove-r having a reduced lower part for fitting in the well casing and a central hole for receiving the pump pipe, said device being formed of two halves, one half having a projecting edge and the other part a recess for receiving said edge, one half having a slot in its outer edge and a wedge for engaging the slot and the inner wall of the well casing.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signa.-
ANDREW HALvoRsoN.
