PATENT OFFICE JACOB HANHARD'I', OF LARNED, KANSAS SALT WATER, rum
' Application filed Maia 31, 1931. Seria1 No. 526,737.
This invention appertains to new and use ful improvements in well apparatus, and more particularly to a salt water plug for eliminating the difliculties occasioned by discharges of salt water from wells located in fields where such subterranean channels are encountered.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a plug for the well casing to prevent the discharge of the salt water from the casmg.
Referring to the drawings I Figure 1 represents a fragmentary side elevational view of a well casing showing the 1 plug in position.
F ig. 2 represents a verticalsectional view through the structure shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 represents a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1. 20 Fig. 4L represents a sectional view taken I substantially on the line 4- of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 represents a cross sectional View taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 represents a perspective view of one 35 section of the plug.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the upper portion of the usual well casing, while numeral 6 represents the deduction pipes.
In carrying out the present invention, a two-part clamp generally referred to by numeral 7, the section of this clamp being flanged as at 8 and secured together by bolts 9 against the upper portion ofthe casing 5 in the manner substantially shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Each of these sections of the clamp 7 is provided with lugs 10. A follower plate 11 is provided with a central opening 12 through which the eduction pipe 6 extends and this follower plate 11 is provided with openings, and these openings are disposed bolts 13 which also extend through openings in the lugs 10.
The plug which is clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 4 is of a frusto-conical shape and divided into a pair of sections 14-14.
These sections 14-14 are engaged against the eduction pipe 6 in the manner substan- 50 forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changesin the without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A plugging device for interposition between the usual well casing and eduction pipe of a well structure'comprising a clamp band divided into a pair of sections, for engagement around the upper edge portion of the well casing, clamping means between the ends of the said band, outwardly extending ears on the band, a packing plug of annular construction and divided into a pair of sec tions, said plug being tapered longitudinally for wedged disposition into the upper end portion of the'casing and against the eduction pipe, a follower plate having a central opening for receiving the eduction pipe, said follower plate being engaged a ainst the upper enlarged end of the plugan provided with openings for receiving bolts, said shape, size and materials may be resorted to ears being provided with openings for receiving bolts, bolts disposed through the registering openings of the plate and ears, and nuts engaged on the said bolts;
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JACOB 1 HANHARDT.
