SHOE FE'LSTENER.
'il olieatio'n *iied il' :ril 27 1923. Serial No. S34 9284 Be it knoivn'ihat ANTHONY All. Monnier'.- LUzzo, e citizen ot the United States', resid- :ing et Bsrneshoro, ii'ithe county of 'Cumbria end Stilte of. lhuinsylvania, 4has invented certain neuv and use ul linprmf'einents in Shoe Fasteners, of which the 'following is a specification. l
.ln earl-ying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide a shoe fastener which is adapted to loe employed in' conjunction with the usuel lacing:Y fastener of shoes for perniitt-i ngthe shoe to he readily token ott or pnt on without the necessity ot unlueing the shoe which is very tedious.
The primary object o'ttheirn'ention resides in the provision ot'such u 'tastenerthstis comparatively simple of construction und one that may he incorporated with shoes without material increase ot cost of production thereof.
lhe nature and advantages ot' the invention will he better understood when the following detailed description is rend in connection with the accompanying,r drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement oi partsns claimed.
ln the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indieate similar parte in the several Views, and wherein z Figure l is a perspective of u shoe equipped with my improved fastener;
Figure 2 is un enlarged fragment-ary elevation of the shoe more clearly disclosing my improved fastener, und
Figure l is n cross section teken upon the line lm of Figure 2 und l'ooiiingdownwardly in the direetion ot' the srronsl lil/lith psrticular'reterence to the drawings there is shown n shoe 5 of conventional orln wherein the upper 6 is open zu; its troni side, the oposite edges ot this open '@"heing -provided -with eyes'for receiving usuel hoe lace 7. i
My invention includes en dpening 3 in the shoe upper at one side of tite 'usuel opening and ot' a length equivalent to this open- Upon opposite edges ot said opening 8 ure spaeed pairs o't metal plates 9 secured to the shoe upper in any manner desirable.
The inner vends of these pairs ot plates 9 extend Within seid"openingr 8 and are of curvilinear 'torni :isnt l0, it heinyggoiI course, understood that the pistes 9 of enc-h pair ere curved in opposite directie-ns for forming en open ended pocket therebetween. if?.
Between each puir of plates at `opposite` 'edges otl the opening 8 is 'a cross har li, the
opposite ends thereof being Ptermed with rounded heads 12 that are adapted for movement through the pockets formed ley the plates 9 of each pair. 'Upon each of the cross loars il and inwardly of the heads 12 are pendant links 13, the lower ends of the saine being in turn engaged over the nent lower har as more clearly brought out in Figure 2.
The uppern'iost har il is provided with un operating handle 14 whereby the bars il iney he drawn upwardly or extended down wurdly in unison for disenguging the heads 12 from the pockets formed by the pairs ot' plates 9 for thereby opening' the upper und permitting the shoe to he pnt on or teken ott.
lu aetuul practice it is necessary that the lace i' he properly adjusted und for eccomplishing this purpose the ours 1l are irst positioned between the pairs of plates 9 und. the lace 7 unlaced from the shoe. fitter this has heen accomplished the shoe ineyheplseed upon the foot und laced to the desired tightness, it bein#4 understood that utter this lsee has heen applied the shoe niayhe teken-oil and put ou Without again lacing or unlaeing the shoe.
Although l have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment ot the present invention, it is nevertheless to he understood that minor changes may he inude therein, withoutdepnrting :troni the spirit und scope of the invention aselaimed.
Having,r thus described my invention', what I claim as new und desire to secure hy Let-` ters Patent is:
A quit-ir detachable shoe fastener includ- .nga plurality ot pairs of pistes secured to the opposite edges of the opening' inthe shoe upper in speeed relation, the plates at one side of 'the opening being in opposite corresponding; relation with the pistes at kthe other side et the opening` :di ot said plates itil) being formed with seekets beyond the edges af the upper, a plurality oit fasteners having the ends forme "for cooperation with correspending sockets on the opposite edges of the upper, and means securing the fastening elements in equal spaced relation with the L @lieues arnet positioned between, opposite memes out of fastening cooperation with said plates l0 simultaneously.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
ANTHONY E. MoNGELLUzZo.
