Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. il/'Arnsormn, a citizen of the United States, residing -at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements ina Combination rlable and Picture Album, of which the following isa specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in tables, and has associated therewith a highly novel form of picture album, the primary object thereof residing in the provision of such a table wherein the top is constructed to afford a compartment for a series of picture frames, wherein the same are readily movable within the compartment for allowing the pictures within any one of the frames to be readily viewed when a hinged section ofthe table top is raised.

An additional object of my invention resides in the provision of such a table with which is associated a picture album wherein the same is extremely simple of construction, and one that may be manufactured and marketed at relatively small cost.

Yet another object is to provide' such an article wherein the same may be employed for all purposes that an ordinary table is now used, and vwherein thepicture album within the compartment formed in the table top may bel operated in a novel simple and expeditious imanner.

An additional object resides in the provision of such a table wherein the different Vpicture frames comprising the album within said compartment of the table top are so mounted therein as to be freely movable towards and away from an opening provided in the table for viewing the pictures within the frames.` n

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction7 combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

My invention per se, has relation/to the specific form of the saidtable topy7which embodies a bottom ywall 8,-preferiablyof Octagon shape, side walls 9, and anoctagon shaped top 10, spaced above said `bottom wall, and being hingedly secured at i12 to a convenient point of the side wall 9, itbeing noticed from a consideration yof Figures 1,v 2 and 4 that the top` 11 has its marginal edges projecting' beyond they side walls of the top', and that suchlal construction provides a compartment lbetween said top and bottom walls. Upon the inner'face ofthe bottom-wall 8 and centrally thereofy is a/bearingdiskf13, that is formed with a centralopeningcoextensive with a screw threaded socket in said bottom wall. ln face tol face contact with this bearing disk 13 is a-.similargbearing disk 14, that is embedded inr thefsurfacc of a relatively large circular plate 15 within the compartment, formed by the particular construction of said table top. Upon they plate 15 andv centrally thereof is a star plate 16, that is formed with a central' opening, whichy is surrounded by a boss 17 and extending throughfthis opening as well kas coextensive openings within the plate 15 and disk 14: isa wood screw 18, whereby the said plate 15 has free rotation within the table compartment.

Upon the said plate 15 is a 'desirable number of metallic U-shaped kframes` 1,9 that are arranged with krelation to each other.l as shown in Figure 3. Pivotally secured within each of these frames 19 vat the vrear end thereof is a pair of picture'carriers 20' and 21, respectively, that are adaptedy for normally positioning within lsaid frames 19 as clearly shown 1n Figure 2.3 As shown is a fragmentary cross sectionaly in Figure 5, eachI of these picture @arriere f include an inner and outer plate element 22 and 23, between which pictures 24 are to be positioned, it being of course understood that said plates 22 and 23 are formed with openings, whereby said pictures mayv be viewed, and in this instance, it might be well to note that the plates comprising some of the picture carriers are to be provided with a pair of openings tor'displaying a pair of pictures, while others are formed with but a single opening vfor displaying pictures of family groups, etc. Said plates 22 and 23 constituting the-picture carriers are to be maintained closed by a suitable latch element 25, it being ot course understood that by releasing the latch, the plate may be opened with respect to each other for the insertion of the pictures. i

Pivotally secured at 26 to a point oit center of the bottom wall 8 ot the table top, and having free swinging movement within a bevelled portion 27 ot said bottom wall is a spring arm 28. This arm 28 is of such a length as to project through a slot 29 within the side walls of the table top, and coextensive with the said bevelled portion 27 of the bottom wall 8. The free end ot said arm 28 carries an operating lrnob`30, and formed upon said arm at a p oint within the compartment of the table top is a lug 3l, that is shouldered'at its outer edge as shown in Figure 4.' Secured to the side walls of the table top within the compartment `directly above said slot 29 and ot a length equivalent to said slot is a plate 32, that is formed at its lower edge with an inwardly directed arcuate iange 33 of lesser length than said slot 29, and upon which the said shoulder of the lugA 3l rides when it is desired to rotate the picture frame carrying plate 15. The edge of this picture carrying plate 1.5 istormed at points between the different picture carriers 19 with notches 34, for the reception or' the lug 3l of the spring arm 28, whereby this plate may be rotated by a swinging movement of the arm upon ,its pivot. It will of course be understood that when `the picture carrying platevl has been moved a distance equivalent to the length ot the slot 29 by the spring arm 28, this arm may be forced downwardly for engaging the shoulder oic the lug 31 beneath the arcuate iange 33 ot said plate 32, for permitting a reversal ot movement of the arm without a consequent reversal movement `of said plate l5.

. Atene side of the slot 29, the top wall of the table top is formed with an opening within which is a hinged section ll', adapted tobe moved to the dotted line position of Figure 2, whereby the pictures of the album may be viewed. The inner side of this section ll carries. a mirror 35 for picture carrying obvious purposes. The side 9 ot the table top is `formed with a cut out portion directly beneath the cut out ot the top wall ll of .said table top 7, and hingedly secured within this cut out is a side wall section 36, that is adapted to be moved to the dotted line position of Figure 2, whenever access is desired to the different picture trames ot the carrier 19. This section 36 carries a desirable form ot' lock 3T, whereby this section 36 and the table top section 1l may be secured together.

They said top section ll carries pendent brackets 38, that are formed with openings :tor receiving screws 39 that project through openings in the side wall 9 ot the table top T for maintaining the top wall ll of said table top in the closed posit-ion of Figure In view of the above yspecification when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, numerous advantages ot a combined table and picture album of the present type `will be fullyV appreciated by' those skilled in the art, and even though I have herein set forth that the table con ysists of a speciic'design, it is nevertheless to be understood that l do not wish to be limited to such a design ot' table.

ln addition, it is also to be understood that while I have hereinr shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

l. A device of the class described including a. housing having a bottom, side walls extending from and above said bottom, and a table top hingedly connected at one side to said side walls co-extensive with thc bottom for enclosing the space between the sidewalls, a plate rotatably mounted on the bottom within the housing, a plurality ot' U-shaped frame members disposed in edgewise relation on said plate and arranged in spaced relation on the edge portion thereof, a plurality of picture holders hingedly mounted in each U-shaped member in superposed relation, and means for rotating said plate for present-ing said U-shaped frame members at a desired point in said housing whereby said picture frames may be moved on their hinges for viewing the pictures carried thereby.

2. An article ot the class described including atable top portion having a housing provided with a bottom wall, side walls` and a table top hingedly connected to said sidewalls, said top having a section thereof hingedly connected to the remaining portion and foldable thereon to provide access to the interior of the housing` a plate rotatable in said housing, a plurality of U--shaped picture holders hingedly mounted in said lJ--shaped frame members, each picture holder including a pair of relatively movable members adapted for intertting relation and providing With picture viewing i0 openings, and means for holding said members in intertting relation whereby pictures may be secured therebetween to be viewed through said openings therein, and means for rotating said plate so that the U- shaped frame member may be successively positioned under the hinge section of the table top so that the pictures carried in the picture holders hinged in said member may be viewed.
