COUPON BOOK.
Application filed December 23, 1921. Serial No. 524,387.
To (ZZZ 107/0771 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE F. JoNEs and JOHN H. ALLisoN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Indianapolis, county of lllarion, and State of Indiana, have in vented a certain new and useful Coupon Book; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the ac- (.rompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to coupon books such as are used by the householder in pay ment for milk, ice and like articles of daily use.
The chief object of the invention is to construct a coupon book which can be sealed against unauthorized removal of the coupons before the book is delivered to the customer.
The chief feature of the invention consists in removably securing together the ends of the coupon sheets which have heretofore been free in such a manner that any unauthorized removal of any of the coupons will be clearly indicated to the customer before delivery of the book to the customer.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a plan view of the coupon book, parts being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the book with a portion of the top cover removed to show coupon sheets. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of a modified form of the invention. Fig. 5 is a plan view of a portion of a coupon book showing another modified form of the invention.
In, the drawings there is illustrated several coupon books which are substantially similar in construction and to which modified forms of the invention have been applied. In said drawings indicates one cover and 11 another cover between which a plurality of coupon sheets 13 are bound. Each coupon sheet includes a plurality of attached coupons 14- separately perforated at 15, as usual. The coupon sheets and the covers are bound together at one end, the left hand end in the drawings, by suitable means such as the usual staples 16 covered by the adhesively'applied binding tape 17.
The means for indicating the unauthorized removal of a coupon or coupon sheet from the book comprises means for removably securing the free ends of the coupon sheets and the cover together. Herein such means is illustrated as a staple 18 or form of stitching which preferably extends through the free end coupons of the coupon sheets to removably secure the same together. In order to safe guard this stapling the staples extend through the covers, and over all there is added an adhesive binding tape 21, which covers the staples 18 and the ends of the end coupon sheets and covers.
In Fig. 4 a modified form of the invention is illustrated and herein the removable staple 25, instead of being centrally located, extends widthwise of the book coupons through the sheets 22 and has an end portion 23 covered by the binding 2a and is provided with an exposed portion 26, by which the same may be grasped: to remove the staple.
In Fig. 5 there is illustrated a further modified form of the invention wherein the staple is centrally positioned at 27 and has both ends 28 and 29 exposed, while a portion thereof as well as the sheet ends is covered by the binding.
It will be readily apparent from the fore going that the leaves of the coupon book are not only bound together at one end in the usual manner, but are secured together at the end to sealthe book against the un authorized removal of a coupon sheet from said book.
The invention claimed is:
1. A sealed coupon book comprising a plurality of coupon sheets, a pair of suitable covers therefor, said book being bound at one end, and removable seal means for securing the sheets and the covers together at the other end by enveloping them.
2. A sealed coupon book comprising a pair of covers, a plurality of coupon sheets therebetween and bound together at one end and to the covers, removable staples extending through the coupons at the other end of the book and the covers, and a binding tape covering said last mentioned ends of the coupon sheets, at least partially coverstapled ends together and covering said stapies, said staples having an exposed portion.
Inwvitness whereof, Wehave hereunto af- 10 fixed our signatures.
GEORGE r. JONES. JOHN H. ALLISON
