PATENT OFFICE.
ARNO VICTOR NEUMANN, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
TRIPLICATI I-ORDER BOOK.
' SPECIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 715,595, dated December 9, 90 2- Applioation filed August 21, 1902. Serial No. 120,585. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that LARNo Vrcroa NEUMANN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Mansfield, county of Richland, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Triplicate-Order Books, of which the following is a specification.
- My invention relates to manifold order books, and is especially designed to take memoranda in triplicate simultaneously; and it consists in an improvement of the construction of Letters Patent No. 553,916 granted to Henry D. Keith, bearing date of February 4, 1896, filed November 4, 1895, Serial No. 56,728, (manifold account and sales book,) whereby triplicate memoranda can be made. It will be observed that only one copy in addition to the original memoranda can be taken in employing the manifold account and sales book constructed according to the specification and claims of the Keith patent referred to.
My invention therefore consists in materially changing the construction of the Keith Letters Patent whereby one original and two copies can be taken at the same time. I attain these objects by the construction of the, order-book as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the book, showing the original leaf, transparent tissuesheet, and carbon sheet or sheets when the book is open. Fig. 2 is an edge View showing the book open.
The back a and primary cover I) consist of two separate parts connected by a flexible hinge c. A leaf-section or pad d, composed of original leaves, is bound between the flexible hinge and one end of the back. To the opposite end of the back a block e is attached,
the upper surface of said block being on a plane with the top of the leaf-section d. This provides a uniform surface for section f. To the upper portion or face of said block, a pad f, composed of separate leaves, is bound. The upper pad f overlaps the lower pad 01. The lower pad is composed of a series of leaves It, having perforations provided'in the end, and a series of tissue-paper leaves h, bound together alternately with said leaves. The upper pad is composed of a series of leaves having perforations provided in one end. Between the padfand the secondary cover j, a double-faced carbon-sheet may be bound, or, if preferred, two or more carbon-sheets, to provide a means whereby triplicate memoranda can be taken simultaneously. The flexible hinge c is made in two parts and attached to one end of the primary cover I), the opposite or free ends being attached to the upper and lower portions m and 'n of the pad d, binding the leaves securely and forming a flexible hinge of superior construction.
In using the book, the primary cover 1) is opened and turned under the book, adjacent to and on aplane with the back a, the secondary cover j, which protects the carbonsheet, is opened, exposing the carbon-sheet, theupper padfis folded back upon the secondary cover j and one of the leaves it, and one of the tissue-leaves h of the lower pad (1 is turned back in the position shown inthe drawings. The upper pad f and the doublefaced carbon-sheet k are then turned back in place and made to lie upon the leaf-section d, and the tissue-leaf is then turned and left lying upon the upper surface of the doublefaced carbon-sheet. The original leaf h is then made to lie upon the upper face of the tissue-sheet. Thisleaves thecarbon-sheetbetween the transparent tissue-sheet and the first leaf of the upper pad f. The order is now written in the usual manner. The original sheet h is then detached along the perforated line and forwarded to the house or firm of the salesman. The duplicate-sheet f is given to the customer and the tissue-sheet h is turned back, leaving it lying adjacent to the primary cover 19 and is retained in the book. The remaining sheet 0 is detached. The carbon-sheet being carbonized on both sides in conjunction with the tissue or transparent paper provides a means of producing triplicate copies. An interposed sheet of cardboard p is bound between the block e and the upper pad f, the purpose of which is to protect the sheets of the lower pad d and separate the lower and upper pads. It also provides a means of raising the entire section quickly and without injury to the leaves. The block e keeps the leaves of the pad (1 in ahorizontal position or parallel with the back a of the book. The pads are bound to the cover and back of the book by means of wire staples or other equivalent means. It will be observed that the impression-leaves need not be removed, but will always be in proper place in conjunction with the respective leaves upon which copies are to be made as the latter are manipulated by the user.
The leaf-section d is composed of an equal number of transparent tissue-sheets and other leaves which I have designated original leaves. They are bound together alternately in a pad of suitable size.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Atriplicating-order book comprising two leaf-sections, a suitable back to the opposite ends of which the pads are bound, one of the leaf-sections composed of transparent tissuesheets and original sheets.
2. An order-book comprising two leaf-sections, a suitable back, the leaf-sections attached to the opposite ends of the back, a primary cover a flexible hinge connecting the primary cover and back, one of the leaf-sections'composed of a pad of separate leaves, and the remaining leaf-section composed of a pad of tissue-sheets and original leaves.
3. In a triplicate-order book, a pad composed of an equal number of tissue-sheets and original leaves, a suitable back to one end of which the pad is secured, a block secured to the opposite end of the back, a pad of separate leaves secured upon the block and adapted to overlie the first-named pad, a secondary cover secured upon the upper pad and a carbon-sheet located between the secondary cover and the upper pad, the secondary cover adapted to overlie and protect the carbonsheet.
4. An order-book comprising a primary cover, a back to which the cover is connected, leaf-sections secured to each end of the back, one of the leaf-sections composed of an equal number of plain sheets and tissue-sheets alternately arranged, the remaining leaf-section composed of plain sheets and adapted to overlie the first-named leaf-section, a secondary cover secured upon the upper leaf-see tion, and a double-faced carbon-sheet secured between the secondary cover and the upper leaf-section, the book adapted to make triplicate memoranda simultaneously by interposing the carbon'sheet between a tissue-sheet of the first-named leaf-section and a plain sheet of the upper leaf-section and superimposing a plain sheet of the first-named leafsection thereupon.
5. A triplicate-order book comprising a suitable back, a pad comprising a series of tissuesheets and plain leaves alternately arranged, the pad secured to one end of the back, a sec- 0nd pad composed of plain leaves secured to the opposite end of the back and overlying the first-named pad, a cover secured upon the upper pad and a double-faced carbon-sheet located between the cover and the upper pad, the carbon-sheet adapted to lie upon the upper pad and be protected by the cover.
6. An orderbook comprising a suitable back, a primary cover, a flexible hinge connecting the primary cover and back, a block secured to one end of the back, a pad secured to the opposite end of the back, the upper surface of the block on a plane with the top of the pad, said pad composed of a series of plain sheets and a series of tissue-sheets arranged alternately, a second pad composed of plain sheets, the second pad secured upon the block and overlying the first-named pad, a double-faced carbon-sheet secured upon the upper pad and a secondary cover located above the carbon-sheet and adapted to protect the latter.
