Combined Register Box and Deflector, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined register box and air deflector. i
The principal object of my invention is to provide a device of the class described, of an abundant free air capacity, to receive the returned air from the floor'level and to discharge the warm air from. the heater,
-' a; whereby a rapid circulation of air may be had in large volumes at a lowtempera ture, in order tofurnish an even degree of heat. Referring now. in detail to the various figures of the drawing, wherein like parts are referred to by like reference numerals, 10 represents heater, of a type used for hot air heating purposes and particularly fora recirculating system of hot air heating as embodied in Letters Patent #1393, 301 issued to me October 11th, 1921, provided with an outer shell or casing 11, the conventional inner shell or radiator and an air thorofare or passageway therebetween, a base 12, a bonnet 1i3 and a main hot air outlet pipe 14 to a first floor register. Other sultable means may be employed to increase the area of thep-ipes 23 or 24 extending from the bonnet 13- inorderthat they may conform at their upper terminals to the form of opening 21 in the box 20.
Cool air deflectors -35 are secured to the base 22 of the box 20 adjacent the outer sides of thepartitions 26-26 and are bent forwardly and secured to the upper inner portions of the ends of the box 20 adjacent the openings 2828;

which induces air to flow in the top of the end openings over the deflector plates whereby whatever object rests upon thetop of the box 20 will be protected from the heat.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6 adapted for distributing warm air to but one room by means of the pipe 24' and the front opening. (the rear opening being closed), the deflector 39 is positioned within the box 20 ina right triangular position so that the warm air is deflected in the one direction only, i. e., outwardly, through the front opening. 7
An extension pipe 32 may be secured to the front opening in the box 20 and the grille 37 secured over the open outer end of such pipe, if desired.
I do not restrict myself to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein set forth, it bei ng obvious that minor variations thereof not involving the exercise of invention may be made by the skilled mechanic and such departure from what is herein described and claimed, not involving invention, I consider as within the terms and scope of my hereinafter appended claims.
I claim 1. A device of the character described, comprising a register box having openings in its base and ends, said vbase openings having communication with the heating chamber of a heater, deflector plates adapted to guide cool air from the end openings to the base openings, the tops of said deflector plates being arranged below the tops of said end openings, a pipe depending from the register box and adapted to connect the register box with the warm air outlet of the heater, and a deflector arranged within the register box, having its sides converge towards the pipe connected with the heater,
whereby air ascending from said heater will be deflected from openings in the'rfront and rear of the registry box, said deflector having its top arranged below the top of the register box thereby allowing free circulation of cool air from'the tops of the end openings.
2. A device of the character. described,
comprising a register box adapted to be arranged above the floor and having relatively large openings in its opposite ends, downwardly extending deflectors arranged within the end portions of the register box adjacent to the end openings and serving to divide the end openings into upper and lower sections, the cool air travelling inwardly and downwardly through the lower opening sections beneath the deflectors serving to induce air into the upper opening sections above the deflectors thereby maintaining the upper portion of the box suitably cool, depending pipes leading from the deflectors to the heating chamber of the furnace, a pipe connecting the heating chamber of the furnace with the central'portion of the register box, said box having hot air outlet openings in its opposite sides arranged at substantially a right angle to the cool air inlet end openings, and a downwardly tapering deflector arranged within the central portions of the register box and disposed at substantially a right angle to the cool'air deflectors, said downwardly tapering deflector having upwardly diverging faces arranged opposite the hot air outlet openings.
A device of the character described, comprising a register box adapted to be arranged above the floor and having relatively large openings in its opposite ends. downwardly extending deflectors arranged within the end portions of the register box, adjacent to the end openings and serving to divide the end openings into upper and lower sections, the cool air travelling inwardly and downwardly through the lower opening sections beneath the deflectors serving to induce air into the upper opening sections above the deflectors thereby maintaining the upper portion of the box suitably cool, depending pipes leading from the deflectors to the heating chamber of the furnace, a pipe connecting the heating chamber of the furnace with the central por tion of the register box, said box having a hot air outlet opening in one of its sides arranged at substantially a right angle to the cool air inlet end openings, and a deflector having a slanting face arranged opposite the hot air opening, and disposed at substantially a right angle to the cool air deflectors, whereby hot air is deflected through the, hot air opening into the room.
