TRACK LINER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JAMES W. FRYE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandborn, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Track Liners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient track lining or straightening device which can readily be operated by one man as distinguished from those devices which require the assistance of several men and which can even then be controlled with only moderate accuracy and under conditions involving a considerable expenditure of time; and more particularly to provide what may be regarded as a one man track liner which can readily be folded into compact "form to be carried by the track walker or section hand and applied and operated wherever may be necessary without the requirement of assistance; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the drawing, wherein:

The apparatus consists essentially of intermediately jointed or foldable rods 10 connected by a bearing plate 11 adapted to be seated upon the head 12 of a jack and provided at their remote ends with rail clamps 13 for engagement with the base or foot portion of a rail under conditions preventing the slipping thereof. and therefore the reduction of the tension applied to the rods by means of the jack, of which the foot 14 is adapted to be placed against one side of the rail, as for example adjacent to a joint indi cated at 15. Obviously by the adjustment of the jack any desired tension may be applied to the rods, and the clamps are disposed with shank portions 13 located at an angle to the aw 13 to insure a substantial engagement. The rods intermediately are provided with links 16 permitting of the folding of the apparatus to compact and convenient form for transportation so that the track walker or section hand may readily carry the same in their examination or inspection of the track condition.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A one-man track liner comprising a hearing plate having a seat to receive the head of a jack, a pair of rods each of which has its inner end pivotally connected to an end of said bearing plate, a pair of rail engaging clamps, each of said clamps comprising a jaw and a shank located at an angle to the jaw whereby to insure substantial engagement with a track, each of said rods having its outer end pivotally connected with a shank of said clamps, and each of said rods being intermediately jointed "for folding into compact form for transportation.
