Application "filed May 31,
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, J OHN P; SWEDENBORG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented newand useful Gar; ment Stretchers, of which the following is a specification; V
This invention relates to garment stretchers, and more particularly to a device especially designed for stretching trousers or the like, it being the primary object of the invention to provide a device of this character which may be adjusted to adapt the same for use with trousers of various sizes and shapes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pair of trouser engaging arms, there being provided a connecting means for connecting the arms, the connecting means being in the form of a hook.
A still further object of the invention is to construct the connecting means of resilient material, so that the same will normally exert a lateral pressure on the trouserengaging arms of the device. 1
W'ith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in'the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the preciseembodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made Within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing 1- Figure l is a front elevational View of a garment stretcher constructed in accordance with the present invention..,
Figure 2 is a sectional. view taken on line 2-2 of'Figure l. p
F igure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1. r V v Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1. r i
Referring to the drawing .in detail,-the device comprises a pair of opposed arms, each arm including an upper section 5 and 'a lower section 6, the upper section being provided with enlargements 7 at the upper end thereof, and enlargements 8 at the lower ends thereof, the enlargements 7 being pro- 1921. Serial no. 473,633; I
vided with a pluralityof openingsto aecommodat'e the bolts'9, which bolts, secure the connecting member 10 to theiarms.
This connecting member is formed of a length of wire bent to provide a hook member 11 and a pair of resilient leg members 12 which have loops 13 formed at the ends thereof, the loops being'designed to accommodate the bolts 9. Secured tothe opposed arms ofrthe device lS' tt locking member which includes a plate tur'ed to receive the bolt 9 towhich is se-, cured a link member 15 that connects the chain 16 to the plate. lag there being provided a hook member 17 secured to the opposite arm of the device and adapted to accommodate alink of the chain 16 to hold the arms in a predetermined position with respect to each other. 7
Having connection with each of the upper sections 5 of the respective leg members, is a resilient arm 18 that has its free end overlying a portion of the opposite section of the arm associated therewith, which section V. Y
is provided with an "opening to receive the pin 19 which is carried by the arm 18. 7 Thus it will be seen that as the sections 6 are moved upwardly into engagement with the ends of the sections 5, the sections5 and 6 are securely held together. Itmight be further stated that in order to secure the sec tions 6 against lateral movement, bars 6 14:, which is aper-' F or; p
are secured to the'section s 5 and extend be yond the lower ends of the sections 5 to pro-. vide guideways. The ends of the sections 5 and 6 of each arm are formed with shoul- V ders as clearly illustrated by Figure 1 of the drawings; so that when the sections are moved into engagement with each other, movement of one sectionwith respect to its adjacent section is prevented. In the use of the device, the chain memher 16 is positioned over the hook 17 to draw 7 Y the arms of the device into parallel relation witheach other, whereuponthe device is positioned within the trouser leg, it being understood that the arms should be positioned in a manner so. that one arm will lie within the crease of the'front portion of a leg,
while the opposite arm lies within the crease in the rear of the leg. With the arms in these positions, the chain is removed from the hook 17, with the result'that thelegs 12 carried by one section of each arm, and cari rying a pin, said pins adapted to move into the openings of opposed sections to secure the sections together.
In testimony that as my own, I have hereto affixed my signa ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
