ers, and has for its main object the provision of such a device which is eflicient and simple in operation, and inexpensive in cost of manufacture.
The above and other ob ectsj Wlll become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawings.
Referring brlefiy to the drawings, lilgure 1 is an elevational view of our device in eX- tended position. c
Fig. 2 is a partial view of the same in'contracted position.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially on the plane 83 of Fig. 1.
F 4 is a cross-sectional viewftaken substantially on the plane 49% of Fig. 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents the central rod of our trousers stretching device, having serrations or teeth 2 in the upper part thereof, and a handle portion 8 at the upper end. inclined straight rods 3 and 41 are joined to said. central rod by means of links 5 as shown. by means of pins pivotally, attach ing said links to said central rod and said rods 3 and a. The rod. 1 passes through an opening or channel 7 in horizontal member 6, the ends of the latter being forked as shown in Figs. 3 and 1. The interior of said channel adjacent the teeth 2 on therod 1 is serrated or provided with teeth corresponding to those at 2 so that the latter mayen- I gage the former. A spring 9, secured to the member 6 at 10, normallyforces said spring against said rod 1 so as to engage the teeth 2 with those inside said channel.
Slots 11 are provided near the ends of the member 6, and therein are adapted to slide pins 16 and 17 at the upper ends of the rods 4 and 8, respectively, said rods passing Specification of Letters Patent.

through the forked ends of the member 6. It is therefore apparent that, when the handle 8 is raised, the side rods 3 and 4 are drawn together, thereby collapsing the device, and making it easy to slide the leg of a pair of trousers over the same; then the handle 8 is depressed, again extending the device, andthereby creasing and pressing the leg of the trousers.
It is obvious that the spring 9 will retain the rod 1 in any vertical position within the range of the teeth 2 thereon; thus, also, it will retain said rod securely in the extended position of the device, whence the latter may i be kept extended for any desired time, thus assuring a thorough pressing or creasing of the trousers so as to remove all wrinkles therefrom.
Since it is common to hang both trousers and a coat on a single suspended device, we have illustrated this combination in Fig. 1, in which 13 is a coat hanger having an eyelet 14 for suspendingthe same from a hook. A cross-bar 15 at the bottom of said hanger provides means for suspending chains 12 therefrom," and it is to the latter that the bridging member 6 is attached.
We claim:
A device of the class described comprising a central vertical bar, a pair of inclined side bars, links pivotally connecting said sidebars to said central bar, a horizontal. member having forked ends, slots in the prongs of said forked ends, pins rigid to the upper ends of said side bars and having slidable engagement with said slots, said side bars having their upper ends passing between the respective prongs of said forked ends, a central opening in said horizontal member, said central bar passing through said opening, serrations on said central bar,
serrations inside said opening, and a spring normally urgin said bar and the serrations thereon toward said serrations inside said opening. I
Signed at Carbondale, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Penna, this 14 day of Feb, A. D. 1920.
