THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH c0., WASHINGTON, n. c.
. UN ED OFFICE-i i H EN RY M Evian, o r g n was I enRME'NrnANGER m s age-c se To l hom it may'con'ceraif Be it known" that I HENRY MEYERa citizen of the, United States, residing 'at Hays, in the countyof Ellis and State of Kansas, have invented certain new andl sa ful Improvements in GarmentHangers and Stretchers, of which the'following'is afspecification.
My invention, relates to a new article of manufacture, and one object' is to"provide a device which -be used to advantage for a variety of purposes, such for instance, as a clothes hanger and; stretcher, a sleeve stretcher and trousers stretcher, etc.
A further object is to provide a simple, durable, and inexpensive device which may be stamped from sheet metal or other suitable material, and in order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device 1 arranged in the form of a clothes hanger and trousers stretcher. I V
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary, perspective view showing certain details of construction of the device disclosed by Fig. 1.
Corresponding reference numerals are employed on corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to Fig. l, 5 designates a pair of stretcher members operably-connected by a pivot 6 and consisting of trouser engaging members 8 and a pair of handles 10, through which latter the pivot 6 extends in such manner that when said handles 10 arepressed together, as disclosed by full lines,
the stretcher members 5 willbe spread apart, and, conversely, when the handles 10 are spread apart'as disclosed by dotted lines, the stretcher members 5 are drawn toward each other. V
A band 12, encircling the handles 10, is employed to hold said handles together as disclosed by the full lines, and when not in use said band may be slipped downward over the pivot 6 to allow the handles to be spread apart. An eye 15 is secured to the end of one of the handles 10, in order that the device may be suspended from a nail, hook, or other support.
17 designates a pair of detachable supporters for holding a coat or similar garment. Each supporter 17 is folded lon itudinally as disclosed by Fig. 2, to stradc le the upper portion of a stretcher member 5. The

Said adjustmentof the trouser engaging members 8' draws the outer ends of the detachable supporters 17 toward each other, so thata coat may be slipped thereover and .hung therefrom by the shoulders of such coat. The handles 10 are'then pressed together to spread the members 8 apart, and secured by slipping the band 12 toward the eye 15. The device may then be hung up by said eye 15 with the trousers A in a dependent position; By'thus-supporting the trousers from the trouser engaging members 8 the legs of the trousers are creased while the coat or coats hung from the supporters 17 are prevented from becoming wrinkled.
When. the device is to be packed for shipment or storage the detachable supporters 17 are removed from the stretcher members 5 and bound or otherwise secured to. the
handles 10 to reducethe device to a small compass.
From the foregoing description, it is apbodying the features of advantage above enumerated, and well adapted for thevarious purposes for which it is intended.
2 Having thus described'my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.-
1. As a new article of manufacture, a pair of pivotallyconnected stretcher members, means to support said members, each member having a substantially 'L-shaped slot opening at one side thereofthrough the top .of the member, a coat supporter for each member, each coat supporter being of U-shape in cross section and receiving the 7 top portions of the stretcher members, and
a pin-eXtending across the interior of each supporter and receivable inthe L-shaped I slots to'detachably hold the supporters on the stretcher members. 7
'2. As a new article of manufacture, a pair of pivotallv connected stretcher members,
the co at supporters to the respective stretcher members. p I
3. As a new article of manufacture, a pair of pivotally connected stretcher members,-
meansto support said members, a coat supporter for each stretcher member formed to engage the top portions thereof, and means to detachably c-onnect the supporters to the stretcher members. I
4. As a new article of manufacture, a pair of pivotally connected stretcher memsupporter for each stretcher member formed to engage the top portions thereof, and means to detachably connect the supporters to the stretcher members; consisting of pin and slot connections between the supporters and members, the slots being formed to re lease the pins in one position of the latter and to engage the pins and prevent upward movement thereof in a second position.
In testimony whereof I affixmy signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
