Be 4it known that l, /YILLiAM H. Mfifrrnnws, a citizen of the United States,resid ing at Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedspring Supports, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates ,to frames for bed springs, and has jfor one of its objects to provide a devicey of this character, having means whereby the frame .may be partly dismembered `and folded into` ,a relatively small space'for transportation or storage. i l l y l Another object ofthe invention is to provide a device of this charactenhaving means whereby the tension ofthe spring mattress supporting portion `may be easilycontrolled withont detaching any of the parts or remening the mattress or bed clothing.`

The improved device is comprised of continuous side or longitudinal rails 10, preferably of L bars, a transverse rail 11 at the head end and a transverse rail 12 at `the foot end, the transverse rails being also formed of L bars and the member 11 directed upwardly between the side rails, as shown more clearly in Figs. 3 and 5.
Mounted on the side rails at each end is a bracket device, but as the brackets at each end of the device are alike, the description of one will suiiice for all.

Each bracket device includes a base portion 13, each having longitudinally directed guide ribs 14 with their confronting edges overhanging to` provide dovetailedv channels, as indicated more clearly `in Fig. 6.
At their outer ends the members 13 are npturned as shown at 15, theupturned portion being reinforced `by an vL shaped member 16 riveted or otherwise attached to the under faces of the upper webs `ot the members 10.
The movable portion of the bracket device comprises a base portion 17 movably engaging the rib members 14 `and provided witha dovetailed strip 18'movable between the ribs 14. The base I`member 17 is upturncd at its outer end asshowny at 19, andthe portions 17 and 19 connected byy an oblicpdelyfdin rected portion 20.
A straining bolt ,21 .passes through the portions a,nd 16 of the `frame and the portion 19 kof eachwof the bracket devices, thev head `22 ofthe ,boltbeing at the outer end of the bolt and bearing against the `portion16 and the nut 23 bearing ,against the inembierl). v A l U The transverse bar 11 is preferably formed of an L bar with` the horizontallweb atl the lower side, while the transverse bar 12 is also formed of an L Ibar but with the horizontal web at the upperside. The vertical web of the bar 11 is cut away at the `ends and the horizontal Vweb portions extended downwardly andthence outwardly at .the ends beyond the cut-away portion, as shown at 21h-to form rests adapted l.to engage the side rails of the bedstead, not shown. Generally the member 11 will be at the head of the bedstead, while the'member 12 will be at the foot.
The `member 12ubears atits ends against the inner facesy of the portions `19 and 2O of the brackets,.as shown.

rlhe portions of the improved device to which the yieldable bed spring structure is connected are each formed in three or more The portions 26, 27 and 28 are each formed of a section of an L bar, and the outer sections 27 and 28 rigidly connected by screws or other suitable fastening devices 31 to the portions 2O of the bracket devices, as shown.
In Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the portions 26, 27 and 28 at the head end are temporarily attached to the vertical web of the transverse member 11 by clamp bolts 33, while the portions 26, 27 and 28 at the foot end are temporarily attached to the horizontal web of the transverse member 12, by clamp bolts 34, the members 11 and 12 being attached only to the members 26, 27 and 28, as shown.
The bed spring or web portion of the device may be of any desired construction and generally includes terminal'springs 35 with the outer terminals of the springs engaging respectively' in apertures 36 in the members 26, 27 and 28, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
AWith the parts connected as shown in Fig. 1, the bed spring is firmly held and supported, and strained to any desired degree by simply manipulating the straining bolts 21, as before described.
The improved device is capable of being folded into a relatively small space for ship ment or storage, or to move the device from place to place or from room to room, by simply detaching the clamp bolts 33 and 34, and folding the outer head and foot portions 27 and 28 over upon the intermediate portions 26, as indicated in Fig. 5.
The portions 11 and 12 will also be released at the same time that the portions 26, 27 and 28 are released, and can be disposed in parallel relation to the side portions 10.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be formed of any suitable material, and preferably as light as possible consistent with the strains to which it will be subjected when in use.
In Fig. 7, a slight modification in the construction of the means for adjusting thel bracket devices is shown, consisting in substituting longitudinally directed slots 38 and clamp bolts 39 in thekmembers 13 for the guide ribs 14 and the guide strips 18, shown in Figs. 1 to 6.
In the modiiied structure, also, the upturned portion 15 is reinforced and supported by an angle member 40 instead of the member 16 disclosed in the structure shown in Fig. 6.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A bed spring support comprising spaced side rails, bracket devices adjustably coupled to the head and foot portions of the side rails, transverse members, each in a plurality of hingedly united sections connected to the bracket devices, said hingedly united sections adapted to support a bed spring, and transverse supporting members detachably connected to the hingedly united members.
2. A bed spring support comprising spaced side rails, bracket devices adjustably coupled to the head and foot portions of the side rails, transverse members, each in a plurality of hingedly united sections connected to the bracket devices, said hingedly united sections adapted to support a bed spring, and transverse supporting members detachably1 connected to the hingedly united members, one of said transverse members having downturned and laterally extended ends to engage the side rails of a bedstead.
3. A bed spring support comprising spaced side rails having guide devices at the ends, bracket devices movably engaging said guide devices, adjusting screws operating to forcibly move said bracket devices longitudinally of the side rails,'transverse members, each in a` plurality of hingedly united sections connected to the bracket devices, said hingedly united sections adaptedto support a bed spring, and transverse supporting members detachably connected to the hingedly united members.
4. A bed spring support comprising spaced side rails having guide devices at the ends, bracket devices movably engaging said guide devices, means carried by theside rails and operating to forcibly move said bracket devices longitudinally of the side rails, transverse members, each in a plurality of hingedly united sections connected to the bracket devices, said hingedly united sections adapted tosupport a bed spring, and transverse supporting members detacliably connected to the hingedly united members.
