Claims.
This invention relates to crib attachments for beds, and has for one of its objects the provision of a knock-down frame that may be readily assembled and superposed upon a bed for use as a crib.
Another object of the invention is to provide such an attachment with adjustable securing means so that the same may be secured to various sizes of beds.
A further object of the invention is to provide such securing means which may be attached to either the sides or ends of the crib structure for securing the said structure to either the bed rails or to the head and foot portions of the bed.
A still further object of the invention is to provide crib structure securing means that may engage either the bedstead directly or the spring or any other element connected to the bed.
Another object is to produce a device of the character described in which the maximum simplicity of construction and operation is secured. Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the improvements is better under- I stood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and co-relation of parts herein fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
, The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, onev of which, for the purpose of illustration, is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of one form of my improved crib attachment secured. to a bed.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 isa fragmental detail view partly in section of a modified form of the invention.
Figure 4 is a detail perspsctive view of the supporting bracket utilized in the Figure 3 modification.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the attaching means secured to the ends of the crib, and
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken on line 6-3,
Figure 5.
Referring now to the drawings in detail 10 indicates a bed or cot comprising a head post 11,- afoot post 12 and side rails 13. The said side rails may have a plurality of brackets 14 secured to them (see Fig. 6) upon which rests a bed spring 15 for supporting a mattress 16.
In the form of nm invention illustrated in Figures l and 2 I have shown the crib 20 superposed and resting upon the mattress 16. The said crib structure comprises a head frame 21, a foot frame 22 and side sections 23 and 23a connected to said head and foot frames by means of hinges 24 provided with readily removable hinge pins 25. The hinges 24 are positioned at the juncture of the sides and the head and foot frames of the crib and each hinge comprises two complementary sections, one of which is secured to either the head frame 21 or foot frame 22 and the other section to the side 23 or 23a, and are connected by the pins 25, which when removed enables the crib to be readily disassembled. Secured to the side section 23 there is a slideway or channel iron 26 in which there is slidingly or telescopically housed a pair of slides 27, each of which terminates at one end in a bearing 28 in which there is loosely mounted a threaded hook, pin or rod .29 provided at the bottom thereof with a horizontal portion 30 which is adapted to engage the bottom surface of the head and foot postscross bars 31. The said pins 29 may also be provided with a short vertical portion 30:: for engagement with the bottom of the spring 15 and the said pins may be vertically adjusted by means of thumb nuts 32. The slides 27 are each provided with a slot 33 through which passes a screw 34 for limiting the inward and outward movement of the slides.
The crib head and foot frames 21 and 22 are each provided with a bearing bracket 35 (see Fig. 2) through which pass threaded pins or rods 29a which are similar in construction to the pins 29, and are vertically adjustable by means of the wing nuts 32.
In Figure 3, I have shown a modified form of the invention in which I interpose a bracket 40 between the sides and ends of the crib, the said brackets being provided with slots 41 and are slidable upon pins or studs 42. These brackets are used to support the crib directly upon the bed frame in cases where no relative give or movement between the bed and crib is desired.
In Figures 5 and 6 I have shown a form of my invention wherein the crib is secured to the bed by means of laterally adjustable securing means carried by the crib head and foot frames 21 and 22 respectively. The said securing means comprises a pair of channels 4:5, one secured to the head post 21, and the other to the foot post 22, each of the said channels slidably supporting a slide 46 provided with a. slot 47 through which passes a screw 48 which threads into the channel 45. The said channels 45 terminate at one end in a bearing 49 and the slides 46 terminate in similar bearings 50 at the opposite ends in which bearings there are maintained the securing screws 29 vertically adjustable by means of the wing nuts 32. In the construction just described, the crib may be secured to various widths of beds.
It will be noted that in both forms of my invention, one of the crib sides may be swung down upon the pins 42 by removing the hinge pins 25, and the entire crib may be disassembled by loosening the wing nuts 32 after the said hinge pins are removed. It will also he noted that no marring of the sides of the bed is possible as the pins 29 may either engage the underside of the bed rails or bed ends or they may engage the spring or other elements secured to the bed frame.
From the foregoing, it will be seer: that I have provided means for securing a superposed crib to a bed, the said means being adapted to be secured either to the crib sides or ends andadjusted longitudinally or laterally of the bed.
It will further be seen that the crib structure may be rapidly assembled and disassembled and stored away when not in use.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A crib frame adapted to be superposed upon a bed, a slideway secured to one side of the crib frame, a slide at each end of the slideway telescopically arranged therein, a bearing in each of the slides extending outwardly of the slideway, a threaded hook slidably carried in said bearings and engaging under a bedstead rail, nuts thre .,d-
ed on the hooks and engaging the bearings for tightening the hooks against the rail and similar studs and nuts carried at the opposite side of the crib for securing the crib to the bed.
2. A crib frame adapted to be superposed upon a bed, a slideway at each end of the crib frame, a slide in each of the slideways, a threaded hook carried by each of the slides and engaging under a bedstead rail, nuts threaded on the hooks and engaging the slides for tightening the hooks against the rails, and similar hooks and nuts carried at the opposite side of the bed.
3. A crib frame adapted to be superposed u'pon a bed, comprising a head portion, a foot portion, sides, hinges connecting the sides to the head portions and foot portions, removably maintained pins in the hinges, studs upon which the crib sides are adapted to be swung downwardly when the pins are removed, slide and slideway structures carried by the crib, and screw threaded hooks carried by the said structures to lockingly engage the bed under a bedstead rail, and means for maintaining the said hooks in said engagement.
4. A crib frame adapted to be superposed upon a bed, a slide and slideway secured to one side of the crib, hooks slidably mounted in the said slide and slideway adapted to engage the bed under a bedstead rail, means connected with the hooks for adjusting their position in the slide and slideway, and similar hooks and means at the opposite side of the crib for securing the crib to the bed 5. Ir. a crib frame adapted to be superposed upon bed, a slide and slideway secured to one side of the crib, hooks slidably mounted in the said slide and slideway adapted to engage the bed under a bedstead rail, and means connected with the hooks for adjusting their position in the slide and slideway.
