WINDOW SGAFFOLD.
Application filed February in exteriorly cleaning and painting windows and in like operations, which may readily be arranged in operative position to afford a substantial support for the operation, and which may readily be adjusted to suit different constructions of windows, widths of sills or thicknesses of walls and the like, and which when not in use may be folded into comparatively compact form; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side view of a device embodying the invention applied in the operative position to a window sill.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is a front view,
Figures 4 and 5 are side views of modified and simplified forms of the device.
The device consists essentially of sill brackets having dependent inner ends 11 carrying clamping screws 12 for engagement with the inner surface of the window casing, it being preferable to interpose felt or like cushions 13 between the.brackets and the sill to avoid marring the latter, side bars 14: carried at their inner ends by said sill brackets and designed to support the flooring 15, a guard connecting the outer ends of said side bars and consisting of the uprights l6 and a cross bar 17, and obliquely disposed braces 18 extending from the sill brackets to the upper ends of the uprights 16.
In the construction illustrated in Figures 1, 2 and 3 the sill brackets support hangers 19 having bearing screws 20 for contact with the outer surface of the wall below the plane of the window sill.- The hangers 19 are adjustably connected with the sill brackets 10 thatthey may be arranged to suit the depth or horizontal measurement of the window sill. This adjustable connection comprises studs 22 upstanding on the hangers and engageable with any one of a series of holes 4, 1921. Serial No. 442,465.
or openings 23 in the brackets, the desired able with the extremity of the hangers when the studs project through the desired holes or openings. Besides bars 14 are bolted as at 241 to the hangers and thelatter are provided with supplemental braces 25 disposed in a downwardly and outwardly inclined position toward the lower extremities of the uprights 16. Also clamping screws 26 are employed in this connection, mounted in the braces 25 to bear upon the surface of the flooring 15 and thus hold the latter in proper relation with the side bars 14.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the outer ends of the side bars 14 are engaged by bolts 27 to which the outer ends of the brace 25 are secured by means of nuts 28, and upon which are threaded the lower extremities of the uprights 16 which are shown as of tubular form, with the extremities of the cross bar 17 connected therewith by the angle bars 29 of whichthe arms are respectively fitted in the bores of said cross bar and uprights, the upright arms of said angle bars extending through eyes 30 on the upper outer ends of the diagonal braces 18.
Also as a supplemental means of stabilizing the structure dependent braces may be employed, consisting of the downwardly and inwardly inclined bars 31 pivotally connected as at 32 to yokes 83 at the lower ends of the bolts 27 and having shoes 34: for contact with the surface of the building wall 35, chains 36 extending upward from said shoes to the platform or to the hangers 19 to limit the downward movement of said supplemental braces.
As shown in Figure 4 the supplemental pendent brace consisting of the bars 31 may be omitted when the weight to be carried by the bracket is relatively light, or in other words in applying the bracket if deemed unnecessary this supplemental bracing means may be omitted.
Again as indicated in Figure 5, in the assembling of the parts of the bracket, should the structure of the building render the use of the hanger 19 objectionable, the side bars 14: employed to support the floor or platform may be attached directly to the sill brackets 10 by means of bolts 37, in which event as will be obvious the pendent supplemental brackets consisting of the bars 31 should be employed as a bracing means for the outer ends of the side bars 14, the outer upper ends of said bars 31, as hereinbefore described, being connected with the yokes 32 at the lower ends of the bolts 27.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is l. A window scaffold having sill brackets provided with dependent inner ends carrying clamping screws, side bars supported by the outer ends of the sill brackets for supporting a floor or platform, braces for the outer ends of said side bars, and a guard carried by said side bars and having uprights rising respectively therefrom and connected by a cross bar, bolts being extended upwardly through the outer ends of the side bars and being engaged by the interiorly threaded lower ends of said uprights.
2. A window scaffold having sill brackets provided with dependent inner ends carrying clamping screws, side bars supported by the outer ends of the sill brackets for supporting a floor or platform, braces for the outer ends of said side bars, and a guard carried by said side bars and having uprights rising respectively therefrom and connected by a cross bar, bolts being extended upwardly from the outer ends of said side bars and the uprights of the guard being tubular and engaged at their lower ends with said bolts.
' 3. A window scafford having sill brackets provided with dependent inner ends carrying clamping screws, side bars supported by the outer ends of the sill brackets for supporting a floor or platform, diagonal braces fo the outer ends of said side bars, and a guard carried by said side bars and having uprights rising respectively therefrom and connected by a cross bar, said uprights and cross bar being tubular and being connected at their adjacent extremities by angle bars I of which the arms are fitted respectively in the bores thereof, said diagonal braces having at their upper ends eyes for engagement by the depending upright engaging arms of said angle bars.
4. A window scaffold having sill brackets carried thereby for engaging the inner surface of a wall adjacent to the sill, hangers depending from the outer ends of said sill ture.
