v F1315 0F DEEDS-WORK, CONNECTICUT, ASIGNOR TO THE WARNER OF BRIDGEPORI', CQNNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CON- I I WOMANS FITTED UNDERGARMENT.
Application tiled bctober 28, 1921. Serial No. 512,807.
To all to it may comern:
Be it own that 1, DE Van H. VVAnNnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Womens Fitted Undergarments, of which the followin is a description.
%his invention relates to womens fitted undergarments, and particularly to garments for supporting both the hips and the busts ofthe wearer.
The primary object of my invention is to provide such a garment'which shall accomplish its purpose eficiently and at the same time be comfort-able and present a pleasing appearance.
More specifically, my improved garment may be described as a combination of a girdle and a bandean permanently connected, either at the front or at the back, but unconnected throughout the remainder of the periphery of the garment. Hose supporters are secured to both portions of the combined garment at suitable places to support the hose and to hold the garment in place and caum it to function more perfectly.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated several difi'erent embodiments of my invention, but these are shown merely to exemplify the many embodiments thereof whi' h may be devised. In the drawing- Fig. 1 shows a development of one garment embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 shows the front of this garment as it appears upon the wearer.
Fig. 3 is a back view thereof, also upon the wearer.
Figs 4 and 5 show developments of other garments of the rear lace type embodying my invention.
' Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the means therein shown for connecting the upper and lower portions of the garment comprises the front central panel A which extends from above the busts. down over the abdomen. To the side edges of the upper portion of this panel are secured the bust supporters B, B, which, with the panel, form a bandeau which fastens in the back by any suitable means, such as the hooks and eyes C. I preferably insert a. circumferentially extensible elastic gore D at the back on one or both sides to make the bandeau portion more adaptable to the figure. Shoulder straps E preferably fasten in the back and are provided with an elastic gore G, to render the girdle formed by the panel A and the members F, F, slightly extensible. The members B, B, and F, F, are not connected except through the panel A. y
In order that the panel A may properly support and suppress the abdomen, I preferably secure the front hose supporters H to the bottom edge thereof. These hose supporters serve also to hold down or anchor the front of both the bandeau and girdle portions of the garment. To assist the 'rdle portion in effectively supporting an suppressing the side hips, and to hold down the sides of the girdle portion, I secure the side hose supporters I thereto at that location.
The bandeau portion of my improved garment is preferably provided with hip extensions J to which the rear garters K are secured. As shown in Fig. 3, these extensions and hose supporters pass over the rear hips. They serve not only to hold down or anchor the rear of the bandeau portion, but also to suppress the rear hips and smooth down the lines of the girdle."
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the edges of the front panel A are provided with boning L, extending throughout part of the height thereof; Boning may also be provided at other parts of both portions of the garment, where desired, as indicated, for example, at
In the garment of Fig. 1 the bandeau portion overlaps the girdle portion somewhat. In the garment of Fig. 4, on the other hand, the bandeau side members B, B, of the bandeau portion are separated somewhat from the side members F, F, of the girdle.
The garment of Fig. 5 is in many respects similar to that of Fig. l, but it is provided with additional elastic gores N at the lower ed e of the bandeau portion, over the hips.
fily improved garment, above described, obviates the necessity of using two separate garments for supporting the hips and busts, and by reason of the unitary front panel to which the front hose supporters are attached it gives to the front of the figure much more pleasing lines than can be obtained by the use of separate bandeaux and corsets. Furthermore.-thc front panel A. in conjunction with the front hose supporters, aflords efiicient abdomen suppressing means, and .the rear extensions of the bandeau portion and the hose supporters secured thereto similarly suppress the rear hips and smooth down the lines of the girdle.
The terms and expressions which I have employed are used as terms of description and not of limitation, and I have no intention. in the use of such terms and expressions, of excluding any equivalents of the features shown and described, or portions thereof, but recognize that various modifications are possible within the scope of the invention claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A womans fitted undergarmeut including afront panel extending from the bust over the abdomen. bust supporting members secured to the side edges of the upper portion of said panel and extending around the busts of the wearer, and hip supporting members connected to the side edges of the lower portion ofsaid panel and extending around the hips of the wearer. said bust supporting members being provided with extensions passing over the rear hips of the wearer and to "which hose supporters are secured for the purpose described.
2. A womans fitted undergarment including a front panel extending from the bust over the abdomen. bust supporting members secured to the side edges of the upper portion of said panel and extending around the busts of the wearer, and hip supporting members connected to the side edges of the lower portion of said panel and extending around the hips of the wearer, said bust supporting members and said hip supporting members being unconnected except through said panel, and said bust supporting members being provided with extensions passing over the rear hips of the wearer and to which hose supporters are secured for the purpose described.
3. A womans fitted undergarment including a front panel extending from the bust over the abdomen bust supporting members secured to the side edges of the upper portion of said panel and extending around the busts of the wearer, and hip supporting members connected to the side edges of the lower portion of said panel and extending around the hips of the wearer. said panel having hose supporters secured to the bottom thereof and said bust supporting members being provided with extensions passing over the rear hips of the wearer and to which hose supporters are secured for the purpose described.
4. A womans fitted undergarment including a i'ront panel extending from the bust over the abdomen. bust supporting members secured to the side edges of the upper portion of said panel and extending around the busts oi the wearer, and hip supporting members connected to the side edges of the lower portion of said panel and extending around the hips of the wearer. said bust supporting members and said hip supporting members being unconnected except through said panel. and said panelehaving hose supporters securcd to the bottom thereof and said bust supporting members being provided with extensions passing over the rear hips of the wearer and to which hose supporters are secured for the purpose described.
A womans fitted undergarment including a front. panel extending from the bust over the abdomen. bust supporting members secured to the side edges oi. the upper portion of said panel and extending; around the busts of the wearer, nd hip supporting mcmbers'connected to the side edges of the lower portion of said panel and extending around the hips of the wearer, said panel having hose supporters secured to the bottom thereof. said hip supporting members having side hose supporters connected thereto, and said bust supporting members being provided with extensions passing over the rear hips of the wearer and to which hose supporters are secured for the purpose described.
