Be it known that I, ROGER W.- ANDREws, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county. of-Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler Feed-Water Regulators, of which the. fol- This invention relates to apparatus for controlling the flow of water-to boilers, and
this application is a division of'my copend ing application, Serial No. 238,765, filed June 7, 1918.
In the operation of steam boilers I have found it desirable, in the use of feed-water regulators operating the feed-water valve of the boiler, to vary more or less,f'at times, the opening of the valve, independently of the regulator, and witlioutinterfering w th the normal operation o-fthe' regulator on the valve. l I
For instance, it has been found in practice, in feeding water to boilers, particularly those, of large capacity or comprising several drums, that the water level in different portions of the boiler, particularly in different drums, may Vary verymaterially, due partly to irregular conditions of the fire which causes variations in the temperature of the water. By the ordinary method of controlling the feed-water valve by a single regulator connected to one drum water will be fed into that drum without reference to the elevation of the waterin the other drum.
One of the objects of this invention is to cause both drums to assist inthe regulation of the feed-water valve, so that if the water in either becomes high or low the valve will be operated accordingly.
Of the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is an elevation of a boiler having three drums and two feedwa ter regulators operating the feed-water valve,v which embodies the features of my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the feed-Water valvev and the imme-- diate operating means along'the line 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section along the line 3 of Figure 2; Fig. 4 is a section along-the line H of Fig. 1.

As a consequence, whenever the water-level in the remote drum 77 varies, it will have an effect on the feed-water valve in addition to lever 89 pivoted to thefframe 93. It will the normal effect of the ordinary feed-water regulator 71 which is controlled in the Ql-dit I nary bl h drum 80.;

I claim as my invention:
1. The combination of a boiler, two feedwater regulators. and a feed-water valve, said valve comprising a plunger and a seat therefor, said plunger and seat being relatively movable rotationally and longitudinally,the first of said feed-water regulators being operatively connected with said boiler and with said valve and arranged to move said plunger and seat relatively longitudinally, and the second of said feed-water regulators being, operatively connected with said boiler at a portion-oil said boiler remote from the'point of connection of said first regulator, said second regulator being also operatively connected with said valve and adapted to move saidplunger and seat relatively rotationally, said splunger and seat when in one relative positioni'orming an opening through said valve, and said opening being varied as said plunger and seat are moved relatively either rotationally or longitudinally.
