Application filed June 27, 1921.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SnwARn J. Dion, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clymer, in the countyof Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brackets and has for an object the provision of a bracket which is capable of use both for supporting a shade and a curtain.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a combined shade and ourtain bracket which is constructed as a sin gle unit, that is, the brackets are integral and which includes means whereby the bracket may be removably secured in place without the use of nails, screws or other auxiliary fasteningdevices.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings z- Figure 1 is an elevation of the upper portion of a window showing the application of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical section, illustrating the manner of securing the bracket in place.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view oi. the combined shade and curtain bracket.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts. the invention is shown as comprising a pair of brackets, one of which is adapted to be secured adjacent the opposite side edges of the window for the purpose of supporting the shade and a curtain. These brackets are practically alike in construction and include a vertically dis posed shank 10. at the lower end of which is provided a forwardly extending arm 11. t 1e arm of one bracket being formed with a notch 12 which receives one end of a shade roller, while the arm of the other bracket is provided with an opening 13 for the reception of the opposite end of the shade roller.
The upper end of the arm is provided with an inwardly extending right angular arm 14:, which carries at its inner end Serial No. 480,713.
claws or prongs 15, adapted for engagement in the upper edge of the facing or trim of the window. Extending laterally from and formed integral with the shank 10 is an arm 16, from the outer end of which extends a curved substantially semi-circular hook shaped member 17 which provides a seat tor a curtain pole. The hook-shaped member 17 extends outwardly from the window casing and is disposed substantially parallel to and spaced slightly above the arm 11, so that the pole may extend either across the shank 10 gas when the hook is disposed upon the outsice of the shank), Or the hook be so positioned that it will engage the pole upon the inside of the shank. In the former position the pole and curtain acts to conceal the major portion of the bracket.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the invention provides an exceedingly simple and cheap bracket for the purpose specified and one that may be cast with the parts integral, or formed from. a single piece of material bent into proper shape.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A device of the character described formed of a single piece of shaped metal and consisting of a main shank, a shade roller engaging arm extending outwardly at a right angle from the bottom of the shank. an inwardly extending right angled arm provided at the upper end of the main shank and disposed at an opposite direction tothe shade roller engaging arm penetrating prongs formed upon said inwardly extending arm, a laterally disposed arm extending from the juncture of the main shank and the right angled arm and terminating in a hook shaped pole supporting bracket per mitting flush engagement with the window casing to its point of curvature, and extending substantially parallel to and above said shade engaging bracket.
In testimony whereof I afilx my signature.
SEWARD J. DICK.
