Description

Patented Oct. 4, 1949 i-"UNITED sTAT Es PATENT OFFICE VENETIAN BLINDBRACKET 7 Marcel Boyer, StL-Eustacg; sur le Lac,'Quebec,
Cana
Application October 8, 1947, Serial No. 778,692 a 1 6 Claims. 1
Thepresent invention pertains to a novel attachment or hanger for hanging a curtain or drape adjacent to a Venetian blind.
The principal object of the invention is to utilize the Venetian blind bracket for supporting the rod for the drapery. Another object is to provide a clip to be fitted on the conventional Ventian blind bracket, for supporting the drapery rod. Thus, an existing installation need not be altered to accommodate the rod.
In the accomplishment of the objects, a clip is mounted over a side of the usual fixed bracket. The clip is shaped to form a seat in which may be inserted an end of the drapery rod. The rod extends horizontally away from the window and along the wall, so that with a pair of such rods the Window can be properly draped.
In a simpler construction, the bracket itself is formed with a seat for the end of the drapery rod. This, however, is a specially 'iormed bracket and must be used as a new installation or as a replacement of an existing installation.
The invention is fully disclosed by way of example in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in use;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device;
Figure 3 is an elevation of the opposite side;
Figure 4 is a section on the 4-4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a similar section of a modification.
Reference to these views will now be made by use of like characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
In Figure 1 is illustrated a conventional rightangular bracket I with apertures 2 in both sides for fastening elements. The bracket is fastened in a corner of a window frame, with the longer side i transverse of the plane of the window. Each upper corner of the window frame is fitted with such a bracket.
At the lower edge of each side I is formed a flange 3 extending toward the vertical center of the Window. The flanges 3 support the usual transverse bar of header 4 of the Venetian blind and are formed with prongs 5 for better securing the member 4. To the lower corner of each side I, more remote from the perpendicular side of the bracket 1, is pivotally attached at 6 a detent 1 having its upper end notched at 1' to receive and retain the header 4 on the adjacent flange 3. The member I is dropped, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, to permit removal of the blind for cleaning. The construction thus 2 far described is conventional and well known in the art.
The invention provides a substantially V- shaped clip 8, with an inturned flange 9 parallel to one of the sides, mounted on the upper edge of the side i. The clip is pivotally attached at H} to the upper corner of the side i nearer the perpendicular side of the bracket I. A curtain rod H has a perpendicular end [2 fitted in the space between the inturned flange 9 and the continuing side of the clip 8. The major portion of the rod H extends outward from the window frame or along the adjacent wall and has its remaining end bowed at I3 parallel to the end l2 and finally flanged and apertured at M for attachment to said wall. A pair of such rods at the sides of the window opening accommodates a pair of drapes.
The bracket side I is spaced from the window frame l5 because of the insertion of the end I2 of the rod H. At lower position in this space is inserted a spacer I6 for bracing side I.
' The pivot I0 permits the clip 8 and rod II to be raised in order to clear the detent I for downward swinging, as in Figure 2. V
In the modification shown in Figure 5, the anchored bracket has its larger or transverse side consisting of a doubled sheet of metal forming two plies 2i) and 2|. At their upper ends, these plies are spaced apart at 22 sufficiently to receive an end 23 of the curtain rod, thus dispensing with the pivotally mounted clip 8 of Figures 1-4. This construction is simpler but does not have the flexibility of the device of Figures 1-4 and cannot employ the standard fixed bracket.
Although specific embodiments of the invention have been illustrated and described, it will be understood that various alterations in the details of construction may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as indicated by the appended claims.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be fastened in a window frame, said bracket having a vertical side and a horizontal side adapted to support one end of a header, a clip pivotally mounted over the upper edge of the vertical side of the bracket, and a flange directed upwardly from a lower edge of said clip and forming a seat for the end of a curtain rod.
2. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be fastened in a window frame, said bracket having a vertical side and a horizontal side adapted to support one end of a header, a U-shaped clip pivotally mounted invertedly over the upper edge of the vertical side of the bracket, and a flange directed upwardly and inwardly from one of the sides of said clip and spaced from the last named side to form a seat for the end of a curtain rod.
3. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be fastened in a window frame, said bracket having a vertical side and a horizontal side adapted to support one end of a header, a flange extending horizontally from the vertical side of said bracket, a clip pivotally mounted over the upper edge of said side, a flange directed upwardly from a lower edge of said clip and forming a seat for the end of a curtain rod.
4. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be fastened in a window frame, said bracket having a vertical side and a horizontai side adapted to support one end of a header, a flange extending horizontally from the vertical side of said bracket, a U-shaped clip pivotally mounted invertedly over the upper edge of one of the sides of the bracket, a flange directed upwardly from a lower edge of said clip and forming a seat for the end of a curtain rod.
5. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be fastened in a window frame, said bracket having a vertical side and a horizontal side adapted to support one end of a header, a clip mounted on the upper edge of the vertical side of the bracket, and a flange directed upwardly from a lower edge of said clip and forming a seat for the end of a curtain rod, said clip being pivotally attached to said side of the bracket at the upper corner thereof nearer the other side of the bracket.
6. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be fastened in a window frame, said bracket having a vertical side and a horizontal side adapted to support one end of a header, a U-shaped clip mounted invertedly over the upper edge of the vertical side of the bracket, and a flange directed upwardly and inwardly from one of the sides of said clip and spaced from the last named side to form a seat for the end of a curtain rod, said clip being pivotally attached to said side of the bracket at the upper corner thereof nearer the other side of the bracket.
