To all whom it may concern Be it known that CARL Hrmnno rrr and G'Us'rav CARLsoN, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Vehicle Shades, of which thefollowing'is a specification.
This invention relates to combination shades for auto lamps, or lights carried upon a moving vehicle.
The principal object of our invention is to provide a device whereby the shade may be folded upwardly within the glass ordinarily covering a reflector lamp;
Another object is to provide a folding lamp shade which protrudes outwardly from the front portion of the lamp proper.
Another object is to provide means for automatically operating the above mentioned shade, and the above mentioned folding lamp shade. q A still further object is to provide a means for operating said shades, said means to be secured to an ordinary instrument board of an automobile, or the like. I
The drawing illustrates the preferred embodiment of the invention. Howevemit is to be understood that in adapting the same to meeting different conditions, various changes in the form, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention, as claimed and set forth in thedrawing.

The inner end of the rod l is secured to a slide 6, which in turn is attached to operating wires 7 which connect to the lower portion of a folding shade 8, at point 9,'this shade (folding) having a flexible lower edge 10 so that as the operating wires 7 force the shade upwardly the folding shade 8 forms in a circular position near the upper Y These wires 7 are incased within metallic, or other suitable tubing 12 in order that the wires Twill not bend, but transmit the motion to the folding shade 8.
' By referring to Figures 2- and 3 it will be seen that the folding lamp shade 13 is attached to the outer portion of-the lamp '11, and is operated by means of a cord 14,
which is attached to the folding shade 8 at point 9. As the folding shade 8 is forced upwardly, the folding lamp shade 13 is allowed to unfold by means of gravity, and to shade a desired portion of the lamp 11.
, It will be seen that this folding lamp shade 13 consists of a plurality of curved sections 15, with ends attached at any suitable point 16 by means of a pivot member 17.
It is understood that this folding lamp shade 13 may be constructed in such a manner as to cover a greater surface of the front portion of the lamp, if so desired.
By referring again to Figure 2 it will be seen that the curved sections 15 are provided with stops 18, which consists of an upturned edge, and a downturned edge, placed in such relation to each other that when the folding lamp shade 13 drops downwardly, these edges form a contact when the same has reached the maximum downward position.
By referring to be seen that we have provided a slot 19 in the instrument manipulator 2 in which functions a log 20 in order to keep the slide 6 from twisting or binding.
Having thus described our invention,
what we claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
