G. PETSGH.
LAMP SHADE HOLDER.
Patented 001;. 17, 1882..
ATTORNEY N. PETERS. vmwmm um. Walhfnghn. n. c
UNrTEo STATES PATENT @EETQE.
CONRAD PETSGH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LAM P-SHADE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,048, dated October 17, 1882.
Application filed June 6, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD PETSCH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention has reference to an improved construction of lamp-shade holders, which are considerably simpler and cheaper in construction and manufactured in less time and with less labor than the shade-holders heretofore in use; and the invention consists of a lam p-shade holder made of two semi-sections, which are bent of suitable wire and composed of a semicircular top or rim, of two arms having laterally-curved lower parts which are riveted to an ordinary base, the arms of the semi-sections being connected at adjoining points by suitable fastening devices.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan view, Fig. 2 an end view, and Fig. 3 a side view, of my improved lam p-shade holder.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre-v sponding parts.
My improved lamp-shade holder is composed of three main partsot an ordinary base, A, and of two scmisections, B B, of equal size and shape-which are preferably made of brass wire of the usual thickness. Each semi-section B is bent so as to form a semicircular top or rim, a, and a downwardly-curved arm, I), at each end, the lower laterally-extending part of each arm, I), being riveted to the base A. The arms I) b of the two semi-sections B B run alongside of each other from the point where the tops or rims a a are bent downward down to the point Where the laterally-extending lower parts begin. The arms I) b are connected with each other at two or more points by means of small (No model.)
pieces, d, of sheet-brass, preferably at a point In place of the brass binding-pieces d, the 5 arms I) b may be connected along their entire length by means of solder, or by any other fastening device, as I do not confine myself to the connecting-pieces of sheet metal shown in the drawings.
A lamp-shade holder constructed as described has the following advantages: As both semi-sections ot' the same are of equal size and shape, they can be made in the same dies, each of a piece of wire of uniform length, which requires less time and labor, so that the shadeholder can be made at a comparatively less price. As the arms are arranged at two diametrically-opposite points only, and as no intermediate arms are used, there is less obstruction to the rays of light, while the round shape of the top or rim obviates any accumulation of dust.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A lamp-shade holder consisting of the base A and of two connected sections, B, each bent of a continuous piece of wire, with a semicircular upper portion or rim, a, and downwardlyextending curved arms I), the arms b I) of the sections B B being connected by fastening devices d d, and secured to the base A at their lower ends, substantially as set fortln In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CONRAD PETSOH.
