Description
To all whom it may concern. I
p I CRANE;
Be it known that I, ALBERT Gr. BEHRnNs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented newand useful Improvements in Cranes, of which the following is a specification.
ricks andlmore particularly to the former and has for anjobject to provide a crane of a simple construction consistingof few parts and which can be inexpensivelymanufactured, I 7
Still further the invention comprehends a crane that is preferably adapted for use in an automobile truck or'the like and which therefore iscarried" at the rear of the truck on the chassis thereof orion some other suitable part of the body of, the truck,the weight of the latter being adapted to counterbalance any load that may be placed upon the post of. the crane to be swun :f the truck to the ground or" vice versa. y 7 I In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is tobe had to theaccompanying drawings,'constituting a part of this specifi- "cation, in, which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts" in all the views,and in which,
Figure 1 'is a perspective view ofnthe .crane.
I Fig. 2-1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view. showing-the angle plate for attaching the crane, and I v Fig. 3- is a perspective view ofthe blank from'which the body of the crane is formed. Beferringmore particularly to the, views, the crane consists substantially of a 'body'or frame 10, a post 11, a block 12 and areinforcing angle plate 13. The body or frame" 10 is preferably formed of "a single angle iron such as shown in Fig. 3, designated by the numeral 1 4:, the angle iron having one o side 15 thereof extending upwardly, slightly beyond the other side 16 with the lower end: of the side 16, extending downwardly; slightly beyond the lower end of the other side 15., The upper projecting end of the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented ill 313 1 6 1920.7 Application meazrune 24, 1 9 19. ';Ser ia11\ To.3O6,294 i is adapted to be bent over at right angles on l j PfST NTIOFFIGE- to the upper edgeof the side 16 and welded thereto, thus forming a top plate 18 and v similarly theextended lower end of the side 16, provided with a small :opening 19 is adapted to be bent at right angles against .the lower edge ofthe side 15 and 'welde The invention relates to: cranes and der--- thereto forming a lowereplate 20.
I The post 11 preferably has its upper end curved in the nature of' the usual davit post as used on ships and the stem 21 of. the post .passesloosely through'the opening 1? and at its lower end is formed with a stud 22 pass ing through the small opening 19, thus supporting the post vertically and permitting of the same being swung relative to the body.
The lower projectingfend of the stud22 after passing through the opening 19 "may 125 and to one of the sides of the body or 10, thus rigidly securing the latter in ra e position -t V t A suitable hoisting gear-27 such 'asa block and tackle or a differential hoisting mecha 'nism may be attached to the upper free end of the post and thus thecranedescribed-can "be conveniently employed for hoisting and swingin'g'heavy articles from the ground on to the automobile truck or viceversa.
- I From thelforegoingdescription it will be constructionand because of the small number and-simplicity of the parts, it can be I cheaply manufactured for the desired pur- P t I Having described my invention, I,cla1m,-
'1. A crane comprising a frame and a post carried by-t-he frame, and mounted .to turn" thereon, said frame consisting of 'anangle j'piece-having one side thereof extended'up wardl y beyond the other and the other sidev thereof-extended downwardly beyond the',
downwardly extended portions being bent [first mentioned side, said upwardly and-f side 15 is providedwith an 'openin'g17 and over their respective sides to the opposite thereof extended downwardly beyond the first mentioned side, said upwardly and 10 downwardly extended. portions being bent over their respective sides to the opposite sides to form upper and lower plates providing'bearings for said posts, and anattaohingbracket for said frame and passing beneath 15.
and against the under plate. 7
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. ALBERT Gr. BEHRENS.
