To all whom if may concern:
Be it known that l, CARL Beniamino, a citizen ot 'the United States, and resident ot Chicagd county ot iCoolr, and State ot lllinois, have invented certain. new and useful improvements in Circuit-Connectors, ot which the following is a specification, and which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, :forming a part thereof.
The invention relates to circuit connectors or" the plug and socket type, and more particularly to such devices in which the plug adapted to occupy :tWo positions with rei:- erence to the socket, in one position closing is the circuit and in the other opening it.
The objects of the invention are to provide a connector simple in construction and convenient and reliable in operation.
An embodiment oi the invention is hereinatter described, and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which* Figure l is a side elevation ofthe device;
lig. 2 is a longitudinal. central section thereof; and 235 Fig. 3 is an elevation 'nal section.
The soclret l() is shown as open at both ends, receiving at one end an incandescent bulb ll and at the other end a plug l2. lihe bulb is shown as of the ordinary center and rino contact type, and is connected vvitli the socket by an ordinary form of bayonet joint.
The invention appertains to the nieans for connecting the plug With the socket and eiiecting the electrical connection., A block i3 ot insulating material is fixed Within the socket, and is shown as being provided with a yielding contact element 'lelitor coperating With tbe central terminal ot the bulb 1L A tubular member l5 extends `through the block i3, and carries the Contact element la, being provided with an internal abutment 16 against which the spring 17, tor advancing the contact element, reacts. 'lhis tubular member projects at its opposite end beyond the block lf3, and forms a contact element for coperation with the plug terminal 1S,
partly in longitudiwhich is in the form of a rod and telescopically enters the member lo, the latter prein titi erably being' longitudinally split, as shown at i9, troni its end and slightly contracted to engage tbe member 18 by a spring pressure.
The plug 1Q; is tubular. A block 20 ot insulating material is aed Within its outer Patented Serial 'uTo. 350,680.
end, and Within this block is anchored the terminal 18, the outer end ot which is hollow, as shown at 2l, to receiv Wire.
e the leading-in llitliin the bore oi the plug is housed a sliding abutment 22, oreierably of insulating material, a spring 23 r the plug 20 urging it towar of the plug. lilingers 2d, Q5
eacting against d the open end ivliicli may be either separate or embodied in a cup iorined member, project from the block i3 beyond the end of the terminal l5,
and may be secured against tbe block under a flange Q6 of this member.
A llange 2i on the terminal i8, and near its inner end, limits the movenient otm the abutment 22 under the inuence of the spring 23. lfVhen the plug is inserted into the socket the abutment 22 engages the ends of the lingers 2i, 25, before the plug terminal makes contact iv ith the socket terminal, and is forced baclmvardly against the resistance oi tbe spring lllie plug is locked in the socket by any suitable means, preferably by a bayonet joint, as shown, the locking ineens being arranged to hold the plug in either tally Vhen the plug is Jfully ins in Figs. l and 2, its terminal stud 3l engages the seatl, is but partially inserted its zerted, as shown i8 is in engage- `nient with tbe contact element lo, and the When the plug 'terminal is out of engagement with the contact element l5,
and the stud engages tbe seat 2C.
ln both positions the plug stud is held against the slot seat by the action oi tbe spring 23, urging the abutment 9:2 against the lingers While a simple and 'etbcient 'forni ot construction is shown, changes be niade Without departing or the invention.
l. ln a circuit connector,
oit detail may 4troni the scope in combination,

contact element carried by ing recessed its end,
Vto the oloclr and ie bloclr and belll@ the enel of the Contact element, a hollow plug .i'ecess in the terminal element, .it springadveiicetl sliding element housed Within the plug for engaging 'the ngeis, :mel means for locking the plug Within tlie socket in two positions5 the terminal and Contact element being in engagement in one of suoli positions and out of engagement in the other ont such positions.,
2. lin e eiiccuit ooiineetoi, in combination, e, soeltet .leaving e xed abutment end e 'Leeiee'e Contact element projecting therethrough, e
ohembei'etl plug adapted to enter the socket and to interlock therewith in 'two axially spaced positions, a, Contact element carried by the plug and telescopiozilly engegeable with the Contact element of the socket when the plug is in its innermost position, a yielding abutment Within the plug chamber, and fingers carried by one oi' the named abutments and engagewble by the other when the plug is in either of its interlocking positions.
