Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 24, 1920.
Application led May 3, 1919. Serial No. 294,546.
To all whom t may r'onewn:
Be it known that l. CHESTER Il. BUCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and State of 'l`ennessee, have invented new I.1nd useful 'niproven)ents in Loose-Leaf-Binder .Attac]unents.y of which the following' is a speeiliration.
This invention has referenre 'to a loose leaf binding derive.
The object of the invention is to produi-e an iniproied method of attacliixn;` a loose leal in a hinder, after the first side ot' said sheet has been filled so that the saine niay he reversed and replarell in the binder in a pon sition similar to its first position, whereby the Writingsurface on the second side of the sheet is on. the right side of the binder when opened to present a convenient writing sur fare for the user.
The improved sheet is designed to he attached to the ordinary posts of binders without interfering' with the construction oi such Flinders, by simply providing the sheet with an additional or auxiliary row of holes on the side thereoic alongthe edge of the sheet directly opposite the usual rows of surh holes, so that theanxiliary holes will be available for use after the lirst side of the sheet has been written full and the reverse side thereof is required Jfor use, und whereby no Writing spare will be wasted and also that when the reverse side of the sheet is to be used the same will be presented to the userin the identical position for writing' as the first side.
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invenion is better understood may be arromplished by a construction and arrangement of parts such as disclosed by the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the sheet arranged on a binder.
Fig. 2 is a similaiview but showing;` :L portion of the sheet severed and the sheet reversel y positioned on the binder.
The improved sheet for loose leaf binders may he ruled in the usual manner and may have printed thereon suitable instruct ions garding the arrangement of the same in the binder so that the Writingl on the sheet will be always on the right side of the binder.
The sheet is indicated by the numeral 5, and as disclosed by the drawings is provided with openings 6 adjacent to one of the edges thereof that are adapted to refeive the bind` ing;- posts 7 of the hinder 8. Thesheet slitted longitudinally to each of the openings 6, as indicated by the numeral 9, and the 'said sheet inward of the openings 6 is provided with either a weakened line 10 or a marked line whereby the end 11 of the sheet, that is, the end provided with the openings 6 may be detached or severed from the sheet 5 'for a purpose which will presently "be apparent. The sheet 5, in line with the openings 6, but adjarent to the edge thereof opposite that provided. with the openings 6 has a line of openings or perforations 12 that are arranged directly opposite the openings 6.
:lWhen one of the sheets has one of the faces thereof fully written on or filled in, the sheet may be removed from the binder `by simply pulling the'same longitudinally'.
therefrom, causing the binding posts 7 to travel through the slits 9. The sheet is the-n out aloner the line 10, and the sheet may be slit longitudinally from its outer ends to the openings 12. The sheet is then reversed and 'passed onto the binder by causing the slits 13 to pass the binding posts and permit of the said posts being received in the openings 12. The reverse side 14 of the sheet has indicia thereon similar to that on the first side 5.
Ha ving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, ier- 1. A leaf for Aloose leaf books having two series of opening-s arranged adjacent to th edges at the opposite ends thereof, said sheet being slitted from its end to one series of said openings, and these series of openings designedto receive the posts of a binder, and the said sheet, inward of the said openingsl having' e weakened line or a line for indicating a peint of severance of lthe end of the sheet movil-led with the last mentioned openings. from the sheet, when one of the faces of the sheet is filled and the Sheet iS t0 be reversed und the openings at the opposite end thereof to be received on the binding posts.
A Sheet designed to be engaged by the binding posts of :i binder and to be reversed after one of the faires thereof has been iile'd in so that the Writing spmg'e on the reverse face will be at the right side oi the binder, comprising e, sheet provided with series of openings at its opposite ends` and thev snid openings designed to receive tLe posts of the binder, the sheet being slitted to the openings thereof first engaged by the Said posts and being provided with a, severing line inward of said openings, and the said sheet when slitted. from its op osite end to its co1- responding openings a, apted to permit of the arrangement thereof 0n the posts when the reverse side thereof is to be presented on the binder.
In testimony whereof I afix m signature.
CHESTER BUCK.
