Description

J. A. SPENCER.
STRIP FOR c'onnaorms MUSIC,
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 30, 1920- 1 393 710 7 Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
IINVENTOR.
Jb hn A. Spencer BY fl ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES JOHN A. SPENCER, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
STRIIP FOR CORRECTING MUSIC.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentedv Oct. 11, 1921 Application filed September 30, 1920v Serial No. 413,690.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. SPENCER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Strips for Correcting Music of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a strip adapted to be pasted over lines of a sheetof music in order to provide music statis upon which corrections may be written.
The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings. in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a sheet of music having one of the correcting strips past-- ed thereon.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the correcting strip in one form.
Fig. 3 is an end view showing a modified form of the correcting strip.
In the drawings a usual sheet of music is shown at 1 having the music statis 2 thereon. Musical notations upon said staffs are shown at 3.
In writing music it is often desirable to correct the notations upon a stat? of a music sheet for which purpose it would be found convenient to paste a strip having a blank music staff thereon across the music staff which is to be corrected. The corrected musical notations are then written upon the strip.
The present invention provides strips 4- having a music staff 5 printed thereon, the strip being of sufficient width to leave a blank space 6 above and below the staff for the notes which are to be written above or below the staff. The rear surface of the strip is gummed as shown at 7 so that the strip may be conveniently pasted over a stat? of a music sheet as shown in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 52 the strip is made up in book form, a plurality of said strips of the required length for a usual sheet of music being arranged upon each leaf of the book with one of their ends connected as by means of the perforations 7 to the stubs 8 forming the leaves 01": the book. A cover for the hook is shown at 9.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 3 the correcting strip is made up as a continuous strip formed as a roll mounted upon a suitable spool 10.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. The combination with a music sheet having a plurality of st aits on its face, of a correcting strip for said music sheet which correcting strip is provided with a music staff and secured to the face of said music sheet over one of the staffs thereon.
2. A correctingstrip having a music staff upon one side and a gummed surface upon the other side.
3. A correcting strip for sheet music having a music staff thereon, and means for attaching the strip to a sheet of music.
4:. A book having stubs and strips connected to said stubs along perforated lines, said strips having music staffs thereon.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JOHN A. SPENCER.
