Be it known that I. ARTHUR O. FEILBACH, a citizen of the United States, residingat North Milwaukee, iii the county of Milwaiikee and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements .inv
Tools for Lifting Valve-Springs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel construction of tool, more particularly adapted for lifting automobile valve springs for the purpose of removing the pinsv or holding means for the valves.
The principal object of the invention is to provide means for lioldino` the spring in raised position so both hancs may be used for withdrawing the pin.-
Another object of the invention is to make the device adjustable, so it may be used on different makes and sizes of automobiles.
The invention also consists incertain other features of construction and'in the combi-nation and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described,I

In describing my invention in detail,

In these views,- 1 indicates the head Vof the tool which is provided with -an extension 2 having a plurality of screw threaded holes 3 in its outer part. 4 indicates a screw threaded rod having its lower end pointed and its upper endbent at right angle to provide a handle 5. This rod is to engage nut 6 is ada ted to lock said rod in adjusted position in the holes. The head 1 is provided with a large bore 7 and a small bore 8, these bores passing through the-head at right angles to the extension 2. through the bore 7 and having its lower end bent at right angles. This bent end is provided with a hole not shown. The bent end is engaged by the fsocketed stein 11 of the forked member 12. This stem is provided withl a plurality of holes 13 to receive, a pin 14: which passes through any oneof the holes 13 into the hole in tlie'bent end of the rod 9, whereby t-lie fork member may be adjusted on the rod 9. The forkedend 12k is of circular foi-mation and itsy upper face is recessed as at 15 -to 'form a seat for the' springcup of the valve stem. A block .16 is adjustably secured to the rod 9 by means of the bolt 17. This block forms a Seat -for a coil spring 18 carried by the rod 9 andl having its other end bearing against the `lower end of the head. In thisrway the spring tends 'to force the fork member, and the extension 2 of thevhead apart. The block 16 carries a small rod 19, the upper end of which engages the small bore 8 in I the head and acts as a guide for the rod 9 o and prevents turning movement of said rod. 20 indicates a hand lever having its lower end forked and pivoted Vby a p in 21 to the head Beyond the pivotal point the forked ends extend at an angle to the handle and 'i these ends are connected with the block 16 by the links 22.
It will thus be seen that: 'when the handle is depressed into the position shown in Fig. 2, the block 16 and the rod 9 will be moved upwardly so as to compress the sprin 18 andY the parts will be held in this position due to` the inclination ofthe forked ends of the handle.
