p T In.
Specification o Application filed January 11, 1919. Serial No.` 270,618.
To all 'whom t may concern." Y
Be it known that I, RACHEL CoornnMAN, a subjectof the King of Roumania, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ties, of which the following is a spec-icae tion.
My invention relates in general to im# provements in ties of the type which are provided with means for attaching thesa'me to the collar when in use.
More specifically one of the objects of the invention is the production of a tie fastener which will be of durable and economical construction and efficient in use. e
Other objects will appearl hereinafter.
The invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a conventional form of collar to which is applied a tie embodying the invention,
Fig. 2, a horizontal section through the front portion of the collar showing the application thereto of the tie,
Fig. 3, a central vertical section of the construction seen in Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4, a perspective view of the tie fastener.
The preferred form ofy construction, as illustrated in the drawings, embodies a bow tie 5 of conventional design, the same being embraced medially of its ends by a band 6.
Arranged at the back of the tie is a clasp or fastener for securing the same to a collar. This clasp or fastener embodies a pair of elongated superposed spring metal members 7 and 8 which are of bowed formation, one of which is preferably more resilient than the other, the ends thereof forming coperating jaws adapted to embrace the adjacent front edges of an ordinary collar 9 in order to secure the tie thereto, as clearly seen in Fig. 2.
The parts 7 and 8 of the fastener are united together at their centers by means of a pair of ears 10 formed at the upper and lower edges of the member 8, and are bent back into engagement with recesses 11 formed in the member 7. With this arf Letters Patent.
Pateneeanee. 16g; i919'.
rangement it will be seen that said members 7 and 8 will be rigidly connected together, the same being positively held against any relative shifting movement.
The fastener thus formed is secured to the tie by means of stitching 12, which is adapted to embrace the fastener at'the points of location of the ears 10. Formed on'the upper and the lower edge of member 8 at-opposite sides of the ears 10 arespaced projections 13, which engage with the stitchinglQ to securely hold' the 4fastener against any relative shifting movement, it being clear that, with thelconstruction -set forth, re` cesses-are formed kadjacent opposite edges of the fastener between,Y the vprojections 13 directly over the flanged ears 10, and at the center of the fastener, which recesses will serve to securely hold the stitching and thus prevent any relative shifting of the fastener. Moreover, the projections 13 engage with adjacent portions of the tie to further aid in holding the fastener in proper relation with the tie.
The construction set forth is extremely simple and permits of application of the fastener to the tie with great expedition.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and .desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a tie, of a holder therefor embodying an elongated member arranged at the back of the tie; means embracing said member for securing the same to said tie; and a pair of spaced projections at the upper and lower edges of said mem-v ber between which said securing means engages for confining said securing means centrally of the holder.
2. The combination with a tie, of a holder therefor embodying an elongated member arranged at the back of the tie; stitching embracing said member for securing the same to the tie; and a pair of spaced projections at the upper and lower edges of said member between which said stitching engages for confining said stitching cenv trally of the holder.
3. The combination Withatie', of'aholder" therefor embodying a pair of elongatedy cation of said ears for secuningzthesame to the tie; and projections on one ofsaid members at opposite sides of said earsengaging` said securing means for confining; the securing means Centrally ofI the holder.V
4. A necktie fastener. embodying a pair of elongated superposed; members :shaped to form diverging extremities, one of said members being more resilient than thefother member, ears formed on the opposite edges of one of the members .intermediate its ends, said earsfbeing, flanged-Jover tl'iezrespeetive adjacent edges of lthe other member for se,-
curing the members together, and; spaced projections vformed' on.' opposite edgesofgone of thelmembers adjacent the sideszoV the/:re-
spective ears, the said;` projections extending adjacent edges of the-,othenmemberforyse#v curing the members together, .and spaced projectionsformed onfopposite edges ofI onel of themembers adj acentthe sides of the re` spectiveears, the said projections extending beyondy the lateral edges ofboth of the saidv members, the bent portion of the-ears yWhich pass over the edges of the other member defining thebottom of the spaces formed between; the respective adjacent projections.
In.: testimony whereof.l I yhave signed my name to this specification in the'presence-ot' two subscribing. Witnesses,-
