Description

E. B.- DETTMER. TOOL HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 16, 1915. 1,201,159. Patented (1110,1916.

TOOL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 10', 1916.
Application filed November 16, 1915. Serial No. 61,795.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, ERWIN B. DETTMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to holders, and has for its primary object to provide a simple and efiicient holder especially designed for containing tools and similar small implements and being so constructed as to be conveniently carried in the pocket and supported by the belt of the user.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective View of the frame of the improved tool holder, the fabric covering therefor being removed, Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the complete holder, Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4L. represents a transverse sectional view through the holder on the line H of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates generally the frame of the holder which includes a U-shaped body member 6 formed of sheet metal and having the longitudinal edges 7 thereof folded back to provide reinfor-cements. The web portion of the U- shaped member 6 constitutes the bottom of the tool holder and the parallel ends thereof constitute the side walls of the holder. The free upper ends of the U-shaped metal member 6 are turned over the opposite end members of a rectangular wire frame, designated generally by the numeral 8. One side of the wire frame 8 is extended a distance beyond the longitudinal edges of the U-shaped member 6 and is curved toward the web portion of said U-shaped member to provide a hook or clip 9, adapted to be engaged over the freeedge by a covering, designated general'ly'by the numeral 11, and preferably consisting of a durable fabric secured over the front and rear of the body frame and having the free edges thereof doubled and overlapped over the parallel ends of the U-shaped member 6, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4C. The over lapped edges of the fabric covering are rigidly and permanently secured to the parallel ends of the U-shaped frame member 6 by rivets or equivalent means 12. tion of the fabric covering 11, constituting the front wall of the tool holder is extended over the clip 9 and the portion of said covering constituting the rear wall of the holder extended upwardly and secured to the rear reinforcing member 10 of the wire frame. The rear portion of the fabric covering 11 is looped, as indicated at. 18, below the rear reinforcing member 10 so as to receive a belt, designated by the numeral 14 in Fig. 3, whereby the tool holder is supported within the pocket of the user and thus relieving said pocket of the weight of the holder and tools, or other articles, contained therein.
What I claim is:
1. A tool holder including a U-shaped member formed of sheet metal, a wire frame carried by the upper extremities of the said U-shaped member and including a clip and a reinforcing member, a fabric covering for said U-shaped member, reinforcing member and clip, and a belt-receiving loop formed by said fabric covering.
2. A tool holder including a- U-shaped member formed of sheet metal, a wire frame carried by the upper extremities of said U-shaped member and including a clip and a reinforcing member, and a fabric covering for said U-shaped member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERVVIN B. DETTMER.
Witnesses:
