To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES A. FARMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warrior, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in File-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in tool holders, and while primarily intended and described as a file holder, it is to be understood that the device may be constructed to accommodate other types of tools.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above mentioned character. simple in construction, and one which will be found very useful by miners, machinists and other artisans, in that the file when not in use is housed in a suitable receptacle and thus protected from dirt, grease or other injuries, the receptacle having associated therewith a hook-like resilient clamp for supporting the device from the belt of the user.

In carrying out my invention I further aim to provide a construction whereby the tool when placed in the receptacle, will be positively held therein against casual displacement. To this end I provide the hooklike clamp with an outwardly bowed portion arranged immediately above the mouth of the receptacle so that when the tool is in position therein it will be effectively engaged by the bowed portion of the clamp and thus held against movement.

In the drawing forming a part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and in which:

A device constructed in accordance with my invention, includes a receptacle 5 constructed from any suitable material, and of any desired contour to accommodate any particular type of tool. As the device in this particular instance is intended for use with a file, the receptacle 5 is elongated and substantially rectangular in cross section. The receptacle comprises a bottom 6, side walls 7, and front and rear walls 8 and 9 respectively, and is open at its upper end. The rear wall 9 adjacent its upper end is provided with spaced parallel transverse slots 10, by means of which one terminal of the clamp 11 is secured to the receptacle, the clamp being constructed to support the receptacle from the belt, pocket or other suitable part of the clothes of the user.

The clamp 11 comprises a single length of resilient metal having one end passed through the slots 10 and bent upwardly against the outer surface of the rear wall 9 as shown at 12 whereby the clamp is secured to the receptacle. The metal is then bent rearwardly to provide a hook-like structure comprising substantially parallel portions 13 and 14: respectively, the portion 13 being adapted to be hooked over the belt of the user. Now when the file or other tool is placed in the receptacle 5 it is not only protected from dirt, grease or other injury, but supported in convenient reach of the user.

With a view of preventing a tool from being lost out of the receptacle, I form the portion 14 of the clamp with an outwardly bowed portion 15 disposed immediately above the mouth of the receptacle, so that when the tool is in position within the receptacle the bowed portion will effectively engage and hold the same against relative movement. By reason of this construction it will be manifest that different size files can be immovably supported in the receptacle, although I desire to have it understood that the holders may be made in any size to accommodate difl'erent size tools.

It is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent without requiring a more extended explanation and therefore the same has been omitted.

What I claim is A tool holder comprising an elongated receptacle open at its upper end, a resilient hook-like clamp rising from the rear wall of the receptacle, and said clamp being formed with an outwardly bowed portion disposed immediately above the mouth of the receptacle.
