To all whom it may concern Be it known .that I, FREDERICK BROWN, of Mount Dennis, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inC-hairs; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

This invention relates to .a chair comprising a peculiarly constructed frame, an adjustable seat rotatably supported thereby, and suitable means releasably holding the seat in itsiadjusted relation to the frame; the object of the invention being to so construct and arrange these parts, that the device may be selectively used either a high chair, a wheelchair, or a rocking chair, as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

For an understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and to the accompanying drawings in which:

The chair consists of the following principal parts, viz: a chair frame, comprising two segmental side frames, a. seat rotatably supported between the side frames, and r leasable locking means, securing the seat in its adjusted position with relation to the frame, as hereinafter described.

As the segmental side frames are similar in all respects, the detailed description of one will therefore answer for both.

Each side frame is shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6, to consist of a straight bar cl, a curved bar d, secured to one extremity of the straight bar 0?, and two oraces, d, d rigidly holding the bars d, d in their spaced relation, the extremities of which are in the same Specification of Letters Patent.

vertical planes, when the chair is in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 6, or the same horizontal planes when in the position shown in Fig. 3.

These side frames are assembled and maintained in parallel planes by transverse braces e, e, c, of which the braces 0, a, may be so constructed as to serve as tables for the chair, the brace (2 being rigidly secured to the bars cl, near the free ends thereof, the brace 6 being rigidly secured to the bars (1 in alinement with the brace e, and the brace 6 being rigidly secured to the braces d of the two frames, between the bars d, d.

The brace e, shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6, is preferably a metal bar of circular cross section, and of sufficient strength to rigidly brace the side frames, and support the seat Z) with the weight of its load thereon.

The seat 6 as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4, has a suitable back 1), arms I)", arm supports 6 and an underframing b the back and the arm supports 6 being extended below the seat and connected by the underframing, which projects beyond the arm supports and holds the foot board 9.

Encircling the brace e, are screw eyes h, the shanks h of which project through the underframing and rotatably connect the seat to the brace.

Secured to the underside of the seat and located near the sides thereof, are two U-.

shaped brackets j, j, and slidable through these brackets are bolts 70, 72, respectively, provided with springs Z, which press the bolts toward the side frames and maintain them normally in their respective keepers, hereinafter described.

When'the device is to be used as a high chair the side frames are turned until the bars 65 are perpendicular to the floor and the seat is rotated to an upright position, as shown in Fig. 3, the bolts, then entering keepers m in the bars at and holding the seat against rotation until they have been withdrawn therefrom.

When the device is to be used as a wheel chair the side frames are turned until the bars (Z are horizontal as shown in Fig. 2. These bars 0? are then adjacent to the floor, and being provided with wheels or casters (Z permit of the chair being wheeled from place to place.

The seat is then rotated until it is upright with relation to the frame in this position, and the bolts enter keepers m in the curved bars d and maintain it in this upright relation.

When the device is to be used as a rock ing chair, as shown in Fig. 1, the side frames are turned until the curved bars 03' are in contact with the floor, these bars then serving as rockers for the device.

l/Vhen the frame is in this position, the seat is again rotated until it is upright with relation to the frame, and the bolts then enter keepers m in the braces 0L and maintain its upright relation to the frame.

Various changes may be made in the structural details of the side frames, the seat and locking means, within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the principle of the invention, and it is to be understood that the specific construction, above described and shown in the accompanying drawings is merely one means by which the principle of the inven tion may be carried into practice, and that the invention not to be limited to those structural details.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A chair usable for rocking and wheeling purposes, comprising two side frames, having rockers along one side, and wheeling means along another side, thereof, a seat rotatably supported between the side frames, to assume an upright position with relation thereto, and means for holding the seat in its adjusted relation to the side frames while used for either of said pur poses, said means comprising a separate set of keepers for each purpose, and locking bolts to enter therein.

2. A chair, usable for various purposes, comprising a frame consisting of two sides, each of which has a curved edge, serving as a rocker, and a substantially straight edge, at the opposite side of the frame to the curved edge, wheeling means for the straight edges of the sides, a seat rotatably supported between said sides, and means for releasably holding the seat in its adjusted relation to the frame, when used for any one purpose.

3. A chair, usable for various purposes, comprising a frame consisting of two sides, each of which has a curved edge, serving as a rocker, and a substantially straight edge, at the opposite side of the frame to the curved edge, wheeling means for the straight edges of the sides, a seat rotatably supported between said sides, and means for releasably holding the seat in its adjusted re lation to the frame, when used for any one purpose, said means comprising a set of keepers for each purpose, for which the chair is usable and spring pressed bolts to enter said keepers.

l. A chair usable as a rocking chair, wheeling chair, or high chair, comprising 65 two corresponding segmental side frames, composed of curved bars serving as rockers, straight bars connected at one end with the same ends of the curved bars, wheeling means for the straight bars, and braces holding the curved and straight bars in their spaced relation, the free ends of which are in the same plane, whereby the segmental frames may be set perpendicularly when the chair is to be used as a high chair, or withf-JS the curved bars or wheeling means on the surface when used as a rocking chair, or wheel chair respectively, a transverse brace, connected to the braces holding the curved and straight bars in their spaced relation, a 80 seat rotatably mounted on the transverse brace, a set of keepers for thesegmental side frames for each purpose for which. the chair is to be used, and spring pressed bolts for the seat to enter said keepers and maintain 85 the seat in an upright relation with the side frames during the period of such use.
