To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PAUL M. HOTOHKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Attitude-Figures for Use in Displaying Garments and Wearing- Apparel, of which the following is a spec1- fication.

My invention relatesto that class of devices which are constructed in the shape of a human figure upon which may be placed dresses and similar wearing apparel. These forms, as constructed at present, are usually made of papier mach with a wax head. In the old figures these papier mach portions, forming the arms and bust, crack and peel, due to the susceptibility of the papier mach to atmospheric conditions and changes in temperature My invention has for its object to provide a construction in which the bust, neck and shoulders, legs and feet are formed of a composition cast in a mold taken from the natural figure, the body portion only being formed of papier mach and the head and arms formed of wax in the usual manner.

This form of construction furnishes a figure which is very much more life-like and which is not affected by atmospheric changes, and inasmuch as the bust, shoulders and upper part of the arms, which are usually shown on these figures when used to display evening gowns, are formed of a composition, which is not susceptible to atmospheric changes or variations in temperature, they do not crack or peel and consequently do not deteriorate in use.

My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings, which are hereunto'annexed and are a part of this specification, in which:

As shown in-the drawings, the body porblocksto permit the passage of rods or pipes 7 and 8. These rods extend upwardly and pass through a wooden yoke 9, and washers l0 and 11, which are secured to the wooden yoke by means of screws 18, or in any other suitable or convenient manner, set screws being provided for the adjustment of the rods. V

The lower ends 12 and 15 are attached to metal lasts 17 which form the lower part of the foot.

The mold having been prepared for the legs, the composition 18, is poured into the mold surrounding the rods 7 and 8, and filling the spaces in the last 17 This composition is preferably formed of plaster of Paris which has mixed with it a fiber stiffening made from fragments of either hemp, rope, hair, burlap, string, etc., in sufiicient quantities to give it strength. The composition is then mixed with water until suffi ciently plastic to be poured into the mold. A wooden block 19, is mounted in the upper part of the papier mach body 2, and carries the supporting device 20, for holding the head, bust and shoulders, on the papier mach part of the body. 7

Frictional devices 22,v are mounted in the arms to permit their movement. The whole results in the production} of an entirely new form for this purpose, one which is very much more substantial and very much more life-like inasmuch as the composition forming the legs, shoulders and bust is cast in a form taken from a human figure Having described my invention what I regard as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent of the United States is:

l. A new article of manufacture, a form comprising a body portion formed of papier mach, the bust, shoulders and back portion being formed of composition, and the head being formed of wax, said composition portions being cast in a mold made from a human form. I

A new article of'manufacture, a form comprising a body portion formed of papier mach, the bust, shoulders and back and leg portions being formed of composition, and the head being formed of wax, said composition portions being cast in a mold madefrom a human form, and means in said leg portions to maintain the figure in anupright position. r

3. A new article of manufacture, a form comprising a body portion formed of papier inach, the bust, shoulders and back portion being formed of composition, said comportions being formed of composition, said composition portions being cast in a mold 10 made from a human form, and means in said leg portions to maintain the figure in an upright position.
