JOI-IN HILLINGER, OSE' CHICAGO', ILLINOIS.
FOUNTAIN-PEN ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 29, 1919.
Application led October 15, 1918. Serial No. 258,201.
T 0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN HILLINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pen Attachments, of which the following is a specification'.
This invention relates to clips for fastening or holding fountain pens in pockets to guard aga-inst the loss thereof, and its object is to provide the clip with a receptacle designed to hold a supply of soluble ink tablets.
The object stated is attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is an of a fountain pen with thereto, and
elevation of a fragment Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device removed from the pen and shown partly in section.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes a fountain pen provided with a clip of conventional design for holding the pen in the owners pocket-to guard against loss. The clip is composed of a shank 6 having at one end the usual laterally projecting spring jaws 7 encircling the pen and gripping the same.
On the outer face of the shank 6 is mounted an elongated tubular receptacle 8 designed to hold a supply of soluble ink tablets 9. This receptacle is closed at the bottom,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for the device attached and its top is provided with a removable closure in the form of a cap 10 seating eX ternally over said end of the receptacle.
The receptacle S extends parallel to the shank G and it is soldered or otherwise permanently secured thereto, and as it is secured to the outer face ofthe shank it does not interfere with the holding function of the clip. It will be noted that the Lipper end of the clip shank from which the jaws 7 extend, is offset laterally from the main .body of the shank, which leaves the upper end of the receptacle 8 carrying the cap 10 free of the shank and renders the cap readily accessible for removal.
The device is simple in construction, and it is cheap and can be easily applied to the clip, and it will be found especially useful for persons in military service as a supply of ink tablets is always at hand with the pen.
I claim:
l. The combination with a fountain pen clip; a receptacle mounted on the shank of the clip and extending in the direction of the length thereof, one end of the receptacle being free of the shank and spaced laterally therefrom, and a closure for said end of the receptacle.
2. The combination with a fountain pen clip having a shank one end of which is offset laterally; of an elongated receptacle mounted on the shank of the clip and terminating at one end beyond the offset portion thereof and spaced laterally therefrom, and a closure for said end of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN I-I'ILLINGER.
