Description
MORTIMER M. SHACKITT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
FOUNTAIN MARKING-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921.
Application filed June 7, 1919, Serial No. 302,372. Renewed November 17, 1920. Serial No. 424,764.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORTIMER M. SHACK- rr'r, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Im' proved Fountain MarkingBrush, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved fountain marking brush more especially designed for use in marking boxes, cases, packages and other articles, and arranged to enable the user to readily carry the fountain marking brush about on his person and to use it whenever it is needed for writing an address or other legend onto the article. Another object is to enable the user to temporarily support the fountain marking brush on his body and thereby enable the user to use both hands for other purposes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a reduced perspective view of the fountain marking brush mounted on the arm of the user and with the brush proper held suspended;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fountain marking brush; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the brush.
The marking brush 10 is provided with the usual bristles 11 and a ferrule 12 for attaching the bristles to a handle 13 provided with a central bore 14. for the passage of a marking ink or other marking fluid to the bristles 11. The end 15 of the handle 13 is reduced and is engaged by one end of a flexible tube 16 attached to a nipple 17 formed on the bottom of a reservoir 18 adapted to contain a marking ink or other marking fluid. The reservoir 18 is provided at the top with a suitable filling cap 19 for filling the reservoir with the marking ink or other marking fluid.
The reservoir 18 is provided with a suitable means for attaching the reservoir to the body of the user, and the fastening means is preferably in the form of a buckle strap 20 adapted to be fastened to the upper portion of one of the arms of the user, as plainly shown in Fig. 1. It will be noticed that by the arrangement described, the user, having hold of the handle 13 and holding the same below the reservoir 18, can readily mark boxes, cases, packages and other articles with an address or other legend with marking ink supplied from the reservoir 18 and passing from the latter by way of the flexible tube 16 and the hollow handle 1.3 to the bristles 11 of the brush 10.
The reservoir 18 is provided. with a suit able clip' 30 adapted to be engaged by the handle 13 0f the brush 10 when the latter is not used for marking purposes. It will be noticed that by this arrangement the reservoir 18 remains attached to the users arm, and the brush is suspended by the clip 30 from the reservoir thus enabling the user to use both hands for other than marking purposes. When it is desired to use the brush again for marking purposes, it is only necessary for the operator to take hold of the handle-13 with the left hand and pull the handle out of the clip 30 and then pass the brush over into the right hand for use as above described.
The nipple 17 is preferably provided with a closing and regulating valve 10 for regulating the flow of the ink from the reservoir 18 to the tube 16 according to the use made of the brush at the time.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A fountain marking brush comprising a brush having an elongated hollow handle relatively small in cross section, an elongated reservoir relatively small in cross section adapted to contain a marking fluid, a flexible connection connecting the end of said reservoir with the end of said handle and in alinement with said reservoir and handle, and a clip held on the saidreservoir and adapted to receive and support the said brush lengthwise of said reservoir.
MORTIMER M. SHACKITT.
