Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efficient in operation.

With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.

In describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The numeral 1 designates a sash screen of the conventional type that is rectangular in shape, forming the frame that supports the screen 2 therein. This type of sash is of Specification of Letters Patent.

the conventional construct-ion ordinarily e1nployed to hold a window screen. The conventional type of sash screen, however, was open to the objection that it was not suitable to various sized windows, the same being only adapted for a' certain size, and also due tovarying weather conditions that sash was liable to shrink or expand, thereby making a positive engagement of the sash in the window frame practically impossible. It is to overcome this objection that the improverment relating to the sash has been made.

The sash 1. is provided with the usual type of projecting lip 3 on one side thereof that :permits it to be'moved as is obvious.

One side of the sash 1 designated by the numeral 1 has connected therewith a boxing which is constructed of sheet metal U- shaped in cross section having an open outer face, and the web portion of the boxing is "securely connected to the side 1 of the sash 1. This side of the sash is provided with a plurality of openings therethrough that aline with openings in the web portion of .the boxing 5, and positioned through said openings are sleeves 6 having their opposite ends flared, that will tend to securely hold the boxing on the side of-the sash of the screen. Positioned adjacent the side 4 of the sash 1 and slidably mounted through the outer face of the boxing 5 is a side bar 7 that is disposed parallel with the side 4 of the sash and is of an equal length to the same.

Positioned through the openings in the side 4: of-the sash and web portion of the boxing 5 are connecting bolts 8 which in this instance comprise eye-screws having their eye portions 9 positioned adjacent the inner side of the side 4 of the sash while the extremities of the bolts or screws are connected with the inner face of the side bar 7 Surrounding the portions of the bolts or screws between the inner faces of the web portion of the boxing and side bar 7 are coiled expansion springs 10 which will space the side bar but permit a lateral adjustment of the same with respect to the adjacent side of the sash.

To position the sash of the screen in a window frame, I preferably place on the adjacent faces of the frame of the window, designated by the numeral 11, a plurality of staples 12 that are vertically disposed, and the outer faces of the side bar 7 and opposite side of the frame 1 are grooved as shown at 13 and let, said grooves extending longitudinally, and being adapted to receive the staples 12 when the screen is positioned in the window frame, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This will form a means for securely positioning the sash of the screen Within any type of Window frame.

In operation, owing to the adjustable side bar that is carried by one side of the sash of the screen, this type of'screen is adapted to fit various sizes of Window frames. By

- placing the staples in the opposite faces of the frame and owing to the grooved outer faces of the side bar in the opposite side of the sash of screen, this type of screen is adapted to be applied to any of a various number of sized window frames. The screen may be very easily positioned therein as is obvious, and the sash may be easily moved by gripping the projecting handle or lip 3 and moving the same laterally so that it may be taken out or placed in the window in a very simple manner. The lateral adjustment of the side bar 7 also compensates for the shrinkage or expansion of the sash or frame in dry or wet weather and enables the screen to at all times be securely positioned. From the foregolng description taken 1n connectlon with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: I

A window screen including a rectangular frame, a boxing constructed of sheet metal substantially U-shaped in cross section and having the web portion engaged with one of the vertical members of said frame, guide inner flanged terminals of the sleeves to limit the outward movement with the slide bar with relation to the frame, and expansion springs confined between the outer flanged terminals of the guide sleeves and the slide bar, coiled about the screws and normally maintaining the slide bar in outwardly projected position.
