which can be readily adjusted for use in the operation of sharpening a saw blade to allow one. to do better work owing to the magnlfying of the teeth due to the glass.

With the above object in view the inven-- tion consists essentially in a carrymg bar attached to the vise, a magnifying glass and an adjustable mounting for the glass in respect to the'bar, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in ,which Figure 1 represents a plan view of the attachment as applied 'to the vise.

The present invention is described as associated with a specially constructed saw vise which forms the subject-matter of Patent No. 1,266,135, issued May 14, 1918, to applicant. On this account I have not considered it necessary to herein enter into a detailed explanation of the vise itself.

Referring now to the drawing 1 represents a work bench to the upper corner of which I have secured my vise indicated generally by the reference figure 2, which vise presents a pair of similar suitably spaced adjustable brackets .3 and 4 which carry the movable jaw 5 of the vise, the jaw being constructed and positionedco clamp in against the strip 6 permanently attached to the side of the work bench and passing lengthwise thereof. The inserted saw blade 9 is held permanently in position between the jaw 5 and the strip 6 when the levers are clamped.

Immediately to the outer side of the jaw 5 and carried by the ends of the brackets I locate a horizontal carrying bar 10 which is substantially rectangular in cross section and is parallel to the jaw.

On this bar I mount ing standard 11 which hasthe upper end thereof fitted with spaced upstanding lugs 12 and 13 and has the lower end thereof cut away at 14 and notched at 15, the notch receiving the bar. A retaining plate 16 is placed in the notch and screwed to the standard and serves to retain the bar in sliding relation to the standard.

17 is an adjustable rod like arm pivotally fastened at 18 to the upper end of the standard, the arm actually passing between the lugs and being fastened thereto by means of a bolt 19 which passes through both the lugs and the arm and is fitted with a winged nut 20, the arrangement being such that when the nut is loosened the arm can be adjusted in the vertical plane and when the nut is tightened the lugs will be drawn in to jam against the arm and hold the arm in any adjusted position.

On the arm I. mount adjustably a magnifying glass 21 of which 22 is the usual band or ring. The ring is supplied with an extending lug 23 which is received between the opposing ends 24 and 25 of a split sleeve 26 slidably mounted on the arm and connected to the lug 23 by means of a bolt 27 passed through the lugs and ring and provided with a winged. nut 28. The arrangement at this point is such that when the nut is tightened it not only jams the split sleeve on the arm but also jams the ends of the sleeve against the lugs. Accordingly a douhle adjustment can be effected at this point. The sleeve can be moved in or out on the arm and the glass can be swung in respect to adjusts it to accommodate his vision when sharpening his saw and as the sharpening operation continues he shifts the attachment endwise on the bar 10 without requiring to 5 make an 1 further adjustment.

Obviously the operation of sharpening a saw is greatly facilitated by this appliance and is much easier on the eyes of the one doing the work. it What I claim as my invention is 2- In an attachment to saw Vises, the combination with adjustable end brackets and a clamping jaw connecting the brackets, of a horizontal bar secured to the brackets and .15 parallel with and t0 the outer side of the eoaaee jaw, an upstanding standard mounted on the bar and slidable endwise of the bar, a rod pivotally secured to the upper end of the standard and adjustable in the vertical plane and a magnifying glass suspended. from the 20 rod and located at right angles thereto and adjustable outwardly and inwardly on the rod.
