To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WEST B, BoNNIrIELn,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Ottumwa, in the county of Wapello, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Bedsupported Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,clear, and exact description of the 111- vention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same. g

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in tables, particularly of that type adapted to be detachably connectedwith and supported bya bed for the convenience of a person confined therein. a

It is in general the object of the present invention to simplify the structure and improve the efficiency of devices of this character, it being in the latter connection a more specific object to provide a table having a wide range of adjustability, whereby it may be adapted for beds of various'widthsand1 may be supported thereon at various heights and inclinations.

A further object resides in the provision of a table which may be supported on a bed frame in a firm manner without the necessity of providing clamping connections with the frame, whereby the table may be set in place or removed in a most ready manner.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts hereirr after described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved table positioned on the bed.

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the table on the line 3-3 ofFig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view a through one end portion of the table, showing the means for adjusting the length thereof.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 5 designates the side rails of a bed frame, over which is positioned side rails 6 of the bed spring frame,

the improved table being supported by the rails 6, although they may as well be supported by the rails 5 in the absence of such rails 6.

The improved table includes a pair of parallel top rails 7, preferably formed of tubular metal, and having elbow connections 8 threadedon adjacent ends thereof to provide securing means for a pair of crossed legs 9, preferably formed of similar material to afford a desired lightness and strength. A. pivot bolt 10 is passed through the legs at their meeting points, and this pivot bolt is in axial alinement with a second pivot bolt 11 passed through the meeting points of a second pair of cross legs 12 having their upper; ends threaded in the shanks of T-coup1ings 13 slidablel on the other end of the top rails 7, normally held against such sliding movement by set,

screws 14 threaded thereinto and engaging the rails 7. The table top comprises preferably a web15 ofcanvas or other fabric, having its side edge portions bolted between the edges of longitudinally bent sleeve plates 16 slidably fitting on the table top rails 7, whereby to. permit ready removal of the table, top web when desired, although it is obvious that the web may be directly bolted or otherwise secured tothe side rails 7. It is thus observed that the table may be readily collapsed to occupy a minimum amount of space when not in use, by swinging its palrs of leg portions together, in the general manner of an ordinary camp stool. a

For supporting the table on the bed rails 6, a collar 17 is adjustably secured on the lower portion of each of the legs 9 and 12, by means of set screws 18 threaded in said collar a-ndbearing against the leg, and each of these collars carries an inwardly extending seating foot 19 adapted to rest on a bed rail.

In the application of the table to a bed,

the pairs oflegs are so relatively adjusted on the table rails 7 that they are spaced apart adistance substantially equal to the distance between the bed rails 6, whereby upon seating engagen'ient of the feet 19 on said rails 6, the lower extremities of the table legs hold the table against lateral movement on the bed;

While the feet 19 maybe secured to the table legs in a permanently rigid manner, the sliding adjustment permitted by the collars 17 and set screws 18 permits an adjustment of the height. of the table top with respect to the bed. It is further noted that by adjusting the collars at one side of the bed, the table top may be supported in an inclined manner, to facilitate the use of bars21 as shown.
