,Be it known thatI, JOHN M. FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fulton, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dancin Figures for Phonographs, of which the fo lowing is a specification.

This invention relates to figure toys and the object of the invention is to provide a dancing figure which may be attached to a phonograph or other talking machines and is adapted to be held in suspended position above the revolving table of the machine; and further to attach operating means to the revolving table for the purpose of engaging the legs of the figure to impart a dancing movement thereto.

Another object of the invention is to provide a toy dancing figure including a body having legs loosely connected therewith and a rotatable operating member in the form of a disk or plate having raised surfaces or projections engaging and imparting a dancing movement to the figure.

The above and other objects and advantages of this invention as well as the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof will be more readily understood from the following description and accompanying drawings.

In the drawings, the figure shows a perspective view of the invention as applied to a phonograph.

In the drawings, 1 designates the casing or frame of a talking machine and 2 the revolving table which receives the reords. 3 indicates a supporting rod or wire having its lower end bent to form a clasp which is engaged with one edge of the casing or frame as shown. In forming this clasp the lower end of the wire is first bent at right angles to form one side 4 of the clasp then is bent downwardly as at 5 and looped upon itself to provide a spring 6. The end of the wire is then carried inwardly to extend in spaced parallelism with the side 4 to provide the other side 7 of the clasp. This side 7 is provided with a hook end 8 which holds the rod in a vertical position.

As shown, the upper end of the rod curves inwardly toward the center of the casing and terminates in a hook 9 which is positioned above the center of the revolving table 2. Supported by the hooked end of the rod is a figure body 11 which in the present instance is made in the representation of a dancing girl. loosely connected to the lower end of the body in any thereto.

To operate the figure, I provide a flat a and is provided with a plurality of upstand- 111g lugs 14 which are preferably struck from the material of the plate and bent upwardly to extend at right angles thereto. However, it will be appreciated that this specific manner of forming the lugs is merely the preferred form and it is to be understood that the plate can be provided with any suitable type ofprojections or raised surfaces formed on or attached to its upper surface in any suitable way. It will be further appreciated that when the lugs of the general type shown in the drawings are used that the same may be arranged in a number of positions with respect to one another in order to cause the legs of the figure to move in imitation of a variety of dance steps.

In arranging the device for use, the disk instead of being placed directly on the revolving table can be supported on the record carried by the table and the central openings of the disk is adapted to receive the center ing pin 15. The supporting rod 3 is then attached to one edge of the frame of the machine as has already been described and the figure carried by said rod is adapted to be suspended over the disk with the feet of tho figure engaging the upper surface of the disk between the projections formed thereon. Then when the machine is started, the disk will revolve with the record and table and the projections formed thereon will impart a dancing movement to the figure body ow ing to their engagement with the loosely connecting legs thereof.

It will be appreciated that by varying the angular relation which the lugs bear to one another the dancing movement of the figure will be varied accordingly.

It is to be understood that I have shown only a preferred embodiment of my lIlYLD- tion and that the parts of the invention are susceptible of various changes in order to be adapted for attachment to various types of The legs 12 of the figure are suitable manner so as to be capable of havlng free movement with respect machines and I reserve the right to make all such changes as may be desired and come within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim 1. The combination with a talking machine and its rotating table, of a figure body, means for supporting the figure body above and in close proximity to the table and op erating means connected to the table and adapted to engage a part of the figure to impart a dancing movement thereto.

2. The combination with a talking machine and its rotating table, of a support, a figure body suspended from the upper end of said support and having loosely connected limbs adapted to be positioned in close proximity to said revolving table and operating means connected to the table and adapted to engage the loosely connected limbs of the figure to impart a dancing movement thereto.

3. The combination with a talking machine and its rotating table, of a supporting rod, a clasp provided at the lower end of said rod and adapted to be engaged with the frame of the machine, a hook formed on the upper end of said rod, and positioned above the revolving table, a figure body suspended from said hook and having loosely connected limbs and operating means connected to the table and adapted to engage the limbs of the figure to impart a dancing movement thereto.

The combination with a talking machine and its rotating table, of a support, a figure body suspended from said support and having loosely connected limbs positioned in close proximity to said table, and a plate supported on said table and adapted to revolve therewith said plate having protuberances formed on its upper surface for engagement with the limbs of said figure.

5. The combination with a talking machine and its rotating table, of a support, a figure suspended from said support and having loosely connected limbs positioned in close proximity to said table, a plate adapted to be rotatably supported on said table, and a plurality of spaced projections formed on the upper surface of said plate and adapted to engage the limbs of the figure.

6. The combination with a talking machine and its rotating table, of a supporting rod, a clasp formed on the lower end of said rod and adapted to be engaged with the frame of the machine, the upper end of said rod being positioned above the center of said table, a figure body suspended from said upper end, and having loosely connected limbs positioned in close proximity to said table a plate revoluble with the table and provided with an opening to receive the center pin, and a plurality of projecting elements posi-- tioned on the upper surface of said plate and adapted to engage the limbs of the figure.

.7. The combination witha talking machine of a figure body mounted thereupon, and a rotatable member, driven by the mech anism of the machine and engaging the figure body to impart movement thereto.

8. The combination with a talking machine, of a figure body supported thereupon, a disk carried by the rotatable table of the machine and engaging the figure body, and means carried by said disk for engaging and imparting a dancing movement to said figure.

9. A dancing toy, including a resilient supporting post provided with attaching means at its lower end, a figure body supported by the upper end of said post, and a rotatable disk provided with upwardly struck projections engageable with said figure body to impart movement thereto.
