Description

H. H. STRAUS.
BUTTON COVERING.
APPLICATION mwmmza. 1918.
1,302,875., Patented May 6, 1919.
ATTORNEY HARRY H. STRAITS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUTTON-COVERING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 6, 1919.
Application filed January 25, 1918. Serial No. 213,651.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY I-I. STRAUS, a. citizen of the United States of America, residing at borough of Manhattan, city, county, and'State' of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Button-Coverings, of which the follow ing is a specification.
This invention relates to button covering.
The invention is particularly applicable to button covering supply parts for use in forming buttons having a covering bearing an insignia or other representation.
In the more specific forms of the invention, the button covering supply part comprises the button covering part provided with means for indicating the proper position of the covering supply part when placed in the button making machine or mold, to thereby insure proper positioning of the covering on the eventually formed button.
Other features and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description and accompanying drawing, in which I Figure 1 is a top plan View of a form of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of the same.
Referring to the drawings, the covering per se 1 for the button is preferably of imitation leather, real leather, cloth or other suitable material.
The insignia or other representation is indicated at Q. A filler 3, of paper board or other relatively stifl' material, is embossed in relief with the insignia or other representation and secured to the rear face of the button covering, as by means of glue, paste, or the like.
Preferably, the button covering 1, per se, is provided with a tab 4: or a cut, impression or other indication, positioned at a definite point relatively to the insignia or other representation to readily enable the operator to determine the proper position of the covering when supplying the same to the button making machine or mold, so that the completed button bears the insignia or other representation in proper relation to the eye of the collet or button back.
On a button, as illustrated, the insignia or other representation is in vertical posi- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for tion when the button is sewed on the garment, and in such case, the indicating means 4 is positioned on the covering 1 vertically below the insignia for buttons formed by the present day approved button making die. In the use of such button making dies, the indicating means 4 appears on the'same face of the covering as the representation.
In the stage of formation of the button,
the indication 4: is turned in or positioned within the folded. edge of the button covering and thus concealed from view in the finished button.
The button covering per 88 may be embossed simultaneously with the filler secured thereto, or the filler itself may be separately embossed and the button covering per 86 subsequently embossed in the button making machine or mold.
\Vhereas I have described my invention by reference to specific forms thereof, it will be understood that many changes and modifications may be made without departing from the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A button covering part comprising a face portion bearing a representation, said covering further comprising a portion extending laterally of said face portion and means for indicating the position of said representation disposed on said lateral portion.
2. A button covering part comprising a face portion bearing a representation, said covering further comprising a portion substantially completely surrounding said face portion and an indicating means disposed on said surrounding portion on the same face as said representation is disposed on said face portion.
3. A button covering part comprising a button face portion bearing on its outer face a representation, said button covering further comprising a portion extending integrally around said button face portion and indicating means disposed on said extending portion and located below said representation.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification this 24th day of January, 1918. HARRY H. STRAUS.
